W100 vs W150. WTF?

Ok I need a little help here on distinguishing the difference between the W100 and W150 pickups. I'm trying to find parts for my 88 W100, and the ones I need are listed under W150. Is there anything major that would stop me from getting W150 springs and differential parts for my W100? Also, what is the difference between the 88 and 89 computers? JET makes a chip for the 89 that I think should work in the 88. But HEY I don't know as much as I think I do anymore.

A little heavier load rating on the 150,
I believe it all started as a way to dodge the emmisions standards in the 70's, for a couple years at least.  I always assumed the 100's hung around for a while for the softer ride desiring folk.  As far as I know the 150 parts will work, but I can't say for sure.

Can't help with the computer question

I think that in 88 the 360 wasn't offered with TBI so MAYBE most performance companies don't recognize this year. I'll call JET Performance and check because I really need a performance boost. If someone already knows the difference please tell me.

the 360 didnt get fuel injection and the TBI system until 89, however, in your other post you state you have a 5.2 which is a 318, why are you loking for 5.9/360 stuff?

as for the w100 versus the w150 most of the parts will interchange without to much of a problem

eric

ps: if you put your vehicle info in your signature line at the bottom of your posts, it would save a lot of people asking exactly what you have

If I recall correctly, the 88s had a computer with a 60 pin and 14 pin connector, whereas the late 89s and later had only the 60 pin connector.  They are not interchangeable.  That may be the difference.

I am looking for 5.2 TBI parts. Not sure why I or you got confused with the 360 thing. I'm going to call JET and ask what the difference is. I can't believe Chrysler would be stupid enough to change the connector between the two years. But hey I own a lot of Chryslers and still ask myself the 'What were they thinking?!' question.

The 100's had a smaller bolt pattern for the wheels...I think it was 5-on-4.5" or something like that.  The 150s had 5-on-5.5" so the axles are probably a little lighter duty as well.  Be sure of what you're getting.

1988 model W-100s had the exact same bolt pattern as any W-150 that year or any year previously back thru at least 1983, and probably to 1980. The wheels on my 83 W-150 fit the wheels on my 88 W-100 and the wheels from the junkyard 89 Ramcharger fit the 88. All the same.
The small bolt pattern difference may have been true in the 70s, but I doubt it because it would have been expensive. I think all models went from the small pattern to the large pattern for 1980 model year.
Comparing the 83 W-150 and 88 W-100, the GVWRS are:
1983 6010 lbs
1988 6400 lbs
The 88 is actually rated to carry more weight. Has the same brakes, the same 9 1/4, the same Dana 44 except with CAD. The only difference may be spring rates, but looking at the GVWRs I think the 88 may actually be the heavier duty truck. Experience says this too. The body lean is less pronounced in the 88.

I think that the difference is mainly in options or trim. For example, my 88 came bumper delete, with hubcaps, and carpet. Thats it. The 83 had good tires, a nice bumper, and was labeled as a "custom model", probably because of the slant 6 miser option.

i've seen lots of 80's 2wd dodges with 5 on 4.5" bolt paterns...Ă‚ come to my regular junkyard and I'll show you them.
Ă‚ The D-100 may be different in this way than the D-150.Ă‚
But he has a W-100, not a D-100.Ă‚

Ok, the 88 and 89 computers have different codes so they won't interchange. Now, does anyone know what it would take to change the computer to an 89 model? What is the difference between the two trucks? I know the MAP sensor is in a different location (on TB instead of firewall), but what else? Also, I'm looking for a 92-93 3/4 ton 5.9 truck. Prefered to be a manual. Any style will work as long as it has 4wd. Trucks here don't move in the winter without 4wd. OR I want a 92-98 Cummins truck with a manual tranny as well.
