The 100's had a smaller bolt pattern for the wheels...I think it was 5-on-4.5" or something like that.Ă‚ The 150s had 5-on-5.5" so the axles are probably a little lighter duty as well.Ă‚ Be sure of what you're getting.
1988 model W-100s had the exact same bolt pattern as any W-150 that year or any year previously back thru at least 1983, and probably to 1980. The wheels on my 83 W-150 fit the wheels on my 88 W-100 and the wheels from the junkyard 89 Ramcharger fit the 88. All the same.
The small bolt pattern difference may have been true in the 70s, but I doubt it because it would have been expensive. I think all models went from the small pattern to the large pattern for 1980 model year.
Comparing the 83 W-150 and 88 W-100, the GVWRS are:
1983 6010 lbs
1988 6400 lbs
The 88 is actually rated to carry more weight. Has the same brakes, the same 9 1/4, the same Dana 44 except with CAD. The only difference may be spring rates, but looking at the GVWRs I think the 88 may actually be the heavier duty truck. Experience says this too. The body lean is less pronounced in the 88.
I think that the difference is mainly in options or trim. For example, my 88 came bumper delete, with hubcaps, and carpet. Thats it. The 83 had good tires, a nice bumper, and was labeled as a "custom model", probably because of the slant 6 miser option.
