Depends on what it is.  A warped rotor could be fixed cheap if there is enough material to turn it and it still be in spec.  Don't let it get turned below the spec as it will warp twice as fast.  Could also just be glazed pads from improper break in or even slack in the kingpins or tie rod ends.

 

should I take the pads out and rough them up a bit with sandpaper to remove the glaze?The truck has done it ever sense I bought it.Now I am doing alot of driving on gravel roads so I want to fix it before I kill myself.

 

Also the rear axle of my truck is a ferd 10.25(dont ask) with a positrac. Does anyone know of a way to convert it to disk brakes using junkyard parts? ive heard of using the brackets and calipers of an 80's 1/2 ton chevy, then use rotors from a 77 K20. How do I keep the parking brake with that set up?

 

Warped rotors... , i have never seen pads cause a shudder, just get the resurfaced or replace them. Sanding the pads is only a cure for noise.

 

90% of the time warped rotors is what will cause a shake when you brake.  I just went through this on one of my cars.  It was so bad I could hardly touch the brakes.  Took them in, had them turned and replaced the pads(a must if you do anything with the rotors).  World of difference.  You generally don't have this problem with rear brakes because they don't do much braking, compared to the front.

 

You can keep a parking brake by using caddy elderado calipers.  You can buy a bracket off ebay and you will need to fab a way to connect your e brake lines to the new calipers.
