Hello gang,

What is the best solution to run in a parts washer?I've use many cleaners, most are environmentally friendly and do not cut the grime. I would rather not use Kerosene due to price and fumes. Any suggestions?

I have never used it in a parts washer(nor do i know if you can) but Varsol is amazing for a part cleaner. I have used it with great success and wont absolutely kill the waller either.

I usually use kerosine or diesel.  Just don't put anything really hot in there!

kerosene mixed with a gal of gunk don't use the bio waterbase stuff that stuff couldn't take grease off a french frie

i used caustic the stuff that supposed to go in it. i dont know what the brand name was but i got it at parts america where i got my parts washer,it wasnt cheap though and i dont think its ecko frendly, but i wasnt scared of blowing myself up either . it was a blue color and smells exactly like whats in the hot tank at my friends machine shop.

That's a fancy way of saying "doesn't cut grease". ;D
i always thought the same thing, until our company got some mega bux french eco-friendly unit.

i thought oh geez, its french, what do they know about getting dirty ???

boy was i wrong. all you do is put water in this suck and it did the rest.

it had a internal water heater that maintained a warmer than air temp. and it used some kind of enzyme or bacteria. i guess they used the same shit with the exxon valdez spill. the enzyme or what ever it was attacked and ATE the grease. the colony fed off diesel grease used engine oil and any other petrol product you could find. the warm water kept em alive and helped the grease dissolve.

no chemicals, no fumes, NO GREASE.

not practical for home use, but no, fumeless doesnt mean dont work ;)

I use mineral spirits in my parts washer. Its sold around here as a solvent in 5 gal buckets.
How well do mineral spirits cut heavy grease and grime?

I use mineral spirits.  It does not cut thick gunk, but if you scrape that off first it works great.  The water based stuff doesn't work at all and it smells like dirty diapers.

Varsol is an Exxon branded mineral spirits.  Safety Kleen's solvent is tinted mineral spirits.

in the navy we used dry cleaning solvent
until they said "cant do that anymore" also used methyl ethyl ketone, gasoline, jp8, starting fluid, methanol, and a bunch of other things that woulda gave OSHA a heart attack.

i just recommend you spend the extra $6 for that pressure sprayer, and combine it with a lil milder solvent. a 100psi jet will greatly improve the performance of any cleaner.

most likely some bio crap. i know we were using those oil eating microbes. i also see a lot of "orange" type cleaners...those citrus smelling solvents.....and also see a lot of "simple green" in the POL shed.
