hey guys im new here looking for help. I have a 92 ramcharger and i originally thought it as my asd well i can run a jumper wire in the asd connector and the pump will run constantly but the moment i turn the key to on the pump stops running. Any suggestions?

When you turn the key on, the pump will only run for a second or so to pressurize the system. Once the engine starts, the pump will then run continuously. What is your issue with the truck?

I believe the pickup coil in the distributor is what sends the signal to keep the ASD energized, but it may be the crank sensor since yours is a 92…I’m not sure if they switched it with the magnum. Dodgeboys will be along and can get you a diagram…

I wanted to say that but it's been a few years since I've had injection and so I waited for someone else to say it first. Lol

Depends if it is a 318, or 360.

The 360 I think was still TBI in 92. The hall effect in the distributor is the biggest no start failure point, and will not give any codes if it fails.

For the MPFI(Magnum). The crank sensor at the back right side of the engine/ trans connection, is the equivalent, It could be a bad sensor, or I have also seen the wires going to it fail.

I forgot about the 360 still being TBI till 93

It does. When the key is first turned on, it turns the pump on for a few seconds, then again once it gets the signal from the crank pos sensor.

The key should not shut the fuel pump off, not sure how you’re jumping the ASD tho, at this point I’d suspect ECM as well, given the CE light status

The ECM provides ground to the ASD relay coil and fuel pump relay coil. The ASD relay contacts provide voltage to the fuel pump relay contacts. There are signals to the ECM which would allow ground to be sent to these two relays to keep the fuel pressure up, but upon initial key on, both relays should close to run the pump for a second or so. Here's the diagram of the relays, maybe it'll help. Spark is another issue. Perhaps this wiring diagram will help on the fuel pump part

Check the connector on the ECM. Might have corroded pins. Might also want to check the bulb. Also look for corroded grounds and any other connectors which may have corrosion as well..
