With a 208 & locking hubs, there's no need to pull the front shaft.

The 84 should have those hubs that are auto locking that like to permanently lock. At least the 84 that I had back in 84-85 did. I'd only pull them to be safe.

OK, I'll give you that. I never had any problem with those hubs, but I always took them apart, and lubed them every 2-3 years.

Yea I believe their the auto lock hubs and my 86 never wanted to stay locked w/ those damn things so I chucked em and opted for warn manual lockers. The shafts are 11 bolts, I'll just pull both shafts no biggy? I thought about running down there this weekend but the poor ol'e girl just don't deserve that kind of punishment. I just don't see my tranny hold'n up in 95deg heat with a 30mph wind and pulling 12,000lbs {no}
 
What would it cost to rent a Uhaul truck? might be worth the peace of mind, extra safety, not to mention your transmission will appreciate you much better if you did.

I'm not sure it might be worth looking into though, but I can bet it would be more than the $100 in gas and the $35 for a tow bar. My trans would love me yes, but its a dodge and I want the bragging rights when she makes it back unscaved. I'm a lil tight on money at the moment. I just don't want to have to tap into my reserved motor funds? I'll go hungry or quit smoking and drinking b4 I tap that piggy bank.
 
But if your tranny is slipping now!  {noclue}  the cost of having two trucks towed will eat your funds even worse.  ;)

Its not sliping to bad and the fluid is nice and red so I think it would be ok. I just can't lay into it like I used to cuz like I said the last 3 times I let it shift by itself past 4k it dosn't want to shift out before it starts to slip. You hear the r's increase but you can tell by the seat of the pants its slipping.
You do prove a very good point though on the cost to have both towed. I bet it would cost me 300-500 to tow both those beasts. I sure am glad you guys are here to help me avoid potential agony.??? {cool}... I'll call around and get some prices on a flatbed this tues. Any rough idea what the daily rates are? Thanks man

I towed it home last weekend, I just used the towbar and it went pretty smooth considering it was 87 deg with a 20mph side wind. She didn't like pulling from a dead stop but once we got moving it was all good. I'll be pulling the motor and trans/t case this weekend hopefully.

I got the motor trans and case pulled and the motor is almost ready to go to the machine shop. I'm just waiting for my ridge reamer {yawn} I was quoted $300 for fluxing, hot tanking, new cam bearings and 30 over bore. Is this a reasonable price from a machine shop that is very repetable in my area. When you have a company with the name Quality Engine you better be good, and they are so I've been told.
I found out that the transfer case is shot, I drained it b4 I pulled it and there was about 1.5 quarts of water b4 I saw trans fluid :-\ . I guess I have a good case If mine ever blowes apart :mad:. The trans seems like its relatively tight. I put it in gear and tried to rotate it each shaft opposite of one another and there is no play. I did notice thought that the input shaft moves in and out a lil more than I would think it should. The motor on the other hand seems to be solid but wont know until I get it fluxed... I'm making good progress though, more progress than I can afford lol

here are some pics of the progress so far. I'll get some of the donor dodge too. Maybe I should re title this topic. I need some ideas on a name for my project {think}. My brain and eyes hurt from transferring pics of my card to my pictures on comp and then upload em to cardomain and then copy past each pic's link in image format on here.... augghh 1.5hrs of that is enough they need a more efficient way of posting pics... enjoy... I'll try to keep you guys posted

I figured I'd clean em up b4 I start so I loaded em up and drug to the car wash and surprisingly they came pretty clean

The motor aint been running in a while thats obvious, with the amount of rust on the cylinder walls it was probably only a few months away from locking itself up. But considering the sludge in the bottom of the pan I wouldn't have been surprising if it knocked and smoked like diesel. This dodge has been yet another victim to neglectful cheby lover. {hammer}

Looks like your making some good progress!!! If you become a supporter you can post pics right on the site very easy. It was the best 30 bucks I ever spent.

$300 is a fair price.  I paid about the same.  if you go with stock heads, expect another $300+ in (dis)assembly, guides, valves etc.
