Ignition actuator rod

So today I tried to start my truck and the key felt like it broke loose in the cylinder, at least that’s what I thought. So I disassembled to replace the ignition cylinder and after doing so same issue.
During reassembly I noticed the issue is the ignition switch actuator rod has came off of the cylinder so when the key turns it doesn’t engage since the rod is no longer connected.
How can I get this reconnected. It doesn’t seem like I can remove the shroud around the steering column to get a better look, so does anyone know if there is a trick to this or if it’s something that needs to be replaced or just popped back in?

if you need more info it’s similar to the issue in this thread:

except his actuator rod was coming out of the ignition switch box under the dash. Mine doesn’t seem to be connected to the ignition key cylinder part up on the steering column

its called the "rack" and dont even think about trying to fix it without a FSM , there are hands full of little parts that fall out that need to go back in the right places , this is one job better left to someone one who knows what their doing [ but its your truck ]

Challenge accepted!

But On a serious note I have been planning on ordering one here for the last couple months since I got the truck anyways so apparently it’s time. This is one I doubt there is a YouTube video for.
Based on the picture you sent me it appears to be about two or three levels deeper into the column then I was yesterday doing the ignition key cylinder which I thought was the issue. I picked up a new ignition switch at the same time so I guess it’s all going to get done.

For now the truck starts by turning the key to on and manually pulling the actuator rod with some vise grips, which makes it look like I’m on a joy ride with a stolen truck. Probably going to attach a little tab or something to it with zip ties to get through to the weekend.

Fingers crossed hopefully my superduty is out of the shop in the next few days so this can actually be the project truck it’s supposed to be and get the paint started.

Depending on the cost of the actuator rod to replace I may take that advice, with the intention of fixing it eventually. Because my fear is right now I’m going to screw up all the little parts in the column if I keep starting it the way you have described without disconnecting it. You’re always a great help, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

I remember seeing a post you made about needing/a pending a medical operation, I hope that you were able to get it and are on the mend!

Thanks

NOPE . my BIG meeting with the anasteseoligest [ gas dude ] is next week , to see if they can even sedate me and survive , that will determine weather they do the operation , i told them flat out i would do it with a "local" if i had to , i did my first and only colonospy with none , had a reaction to that stuff also

like i told my family and friends , i,d rather go thru life [ at 62 ] with a leaky butt and be alive , than try to fix a minor problem that could kill me , at this stage of the game l can live with TWO assholes

Well depending on the outcome, if needed, I can set you up with my saddle blanket wholesaler.
