Anybody know what the little clear plastic connector for the vacuum hoses under the dash just right of the steering column is called? Mine has completely disintegrated into white sticky powder.

Also, can I pick this up at the dealership or do I need to make a junkyard run?

Not sure if what you're talkin' about is for the climate control vacuum hoses or not but,if so,one is made of a waxy type substance that, with age turns brittle and just disintegrates when fussed with. On my '85,there are(were) two pieces exactly the same but made of two diff materials. One being the waxy material the other a soft pliable silicone like material. They are exactky the same. After I replaced the heater core and the one self destructed in my hand,I went to a junk yard got another soft, pliable one and simply reversed it and used it in place. To answer your question,I hqven't any idea what it is called.

Yeah it's the multi colored hoses for the climate control system. After seeing it yesterday I realized why my defrost was blowing from the vents...

Okay. Now we are on the same page. If you find a donor with the vac hose harness, snag both ends. I cannot for the life of me remember which end was the waxy type and which was the soft, pliable type. Snag the pliabke end. I wanna say the pliable end didn't have all seven holes and I had to open one or two. Damn,I cannot remember now! Anyway, they both have female/male sides. Just reverse it and it will go in and you will not hafta worry about it disintegrating in the future.  I hope that helps ya somewhat.

After perusing my factory repair maual and not seeing it labled,I will heretofore lable it the "climate control vacuum hose juntion piece". A bit lengthy I know but,as there is no name for it,like a new species of animal or planet,I can name it whatever I choose.
BTW,a defroster in Tampa?! Now just WTF is goin' on down south?  {noclue}

Hey guys i believe the factory used the clear couplers on the heat/AC vac tubing for looks .
You can get black rubber couplers for the vac lines at your local parts store .

Or if you want to get creative take a piece of one of the lines of the same size . And take a trip to your local Lowe's or Home Depot and find a hose in the plumbing section that fits around the vac tube snug and cut to fit .

i would go to the salvage yard. many of the 80s dodge vehicles used the same vacuum hoses as the trucks. the only real difference is the length of the hose. you would have to be careful if you try to splice you current hoses.
there is several black hoses and 1 red hose on one side and multiple colored hoses on the other side. if you connect the wrong hoses together the vents will not work.

Hah, well I don't need it right now because its a balmy 87 degrees today, but I do a lot of hunting up in the panhandle and it gets pretty cold up that way (not "Ohio in the snow cold" but cold enough for us flatlanders). Just trying to prepare for the woods next month ;D

Thanks for the info, I'll be visiting the junkyard this weekend unless the p/n that Dodgeboys gave me turns up something better for cheap.

#13 4261-301 VACUUM EXTENSION, Hose Heater Control
Ok, here's an update. I just called the local Dodge store here and the part's guy said this number(4261-301) had been discontinued. He did say though that p/n 3847-622 for an '88 Ramcharger should work on my '86 RC because it's supposed to fit from '84-'97. But the cost is $31 and he'd have to special order it. I may just go to the junkyard with this info and find one for a buck or two.

Thanks again for the help from everyone. I'll post when I get it done.

Any connector you find in a yard will have the same problem...the plastic breaks down due to time, not exposure or use.  Small pieces of clear tubing (aquarium tubing) glued between the ends of the vac lines will work just as well.  I'll see if I can dig up that vac diagram somewhere...I see that the "known fix" got all screwed up when I had to dump my photobucket account.

Good luck and keep us posted!

A vac diagram would be a big help. if you want you can email it to me ;D I have some aquarium tubing and a tube of E-6000 so all I need is the correct order of the vac tubes. Thanks.
