My "92 Ram fuel gauge does not work. With the key off it regesters 3/8 tank. When I turn the key on the needle drops to "E". Almost like it has a bad ground. I can not find anything wrong anywhere. This truck has a brand new fuel pump/sending unit assembly so the problem shouldn't be there. I'm thinking the problem might be in the gauge itself but I can't find a replacement, not factory or aftermarket. Every truck I find in the salvage yards that has the fuel guage under the water temp like mine has the same problem because they all regester fuel between 1/4 to 1/2 tank with no power to the gauge (no battery). Every truck in the salvage yards with the older cluster that has the water and fuel gauges inverted (up through '89 or '90), has a working fuel gauge - they are all on "E" with no power to the gauge. Does anyone know of a fix for this, or will the '89ish cluster hook up to my '92 harness to eliminate the problem all together
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
