Hello everyone, I have a 1984 W250 4x4 with a non tilt steering column and I'm looking to put tilt in. I've come across a tilt steering column out of an 86 2wd I believe, would it just be a simple plug in and play? I've tried researching the topic with little to no information about it. They look very identical, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Thanks for the help

As long as you get everything down to the steering box, it "Should" fit. I say should, because the steering box on a 4x4 is a inch or two forward of were it is in the 2wd. I have swapped several, and not had an issue yet.

No for the wiring, Dodge made a change in the wiring between 85 and 86. What changed as far as the steering col, I do not know.

The tilt col has an short adapter section of wiring to match the tilt ign to the not tilt wires, make sure you get that. I would bet it will match up with your wires.

Looking at Rock auto, I see the turn signal switch changed in 86, might be the connector, or who knows what. I would put my money on it working, or maybe needing to pull the terminals out of your connectors, and poke them in the old one. If you can, get several inches of the wires past the connector with the tilt col, and you can mate them if needed.

Read this post, you may want to check out the cam while you have the column apart.

84 has wiper switch on the dash. 86 might be on the column?

Lower steering shaft is a different length for 84 tilt vs 90 non-tilt, both 2wd.
