Ramcharger best year for a cummins swap

About the only thing that year would really matter, is if you had both the RC, and donor truck from the same year, most of the wiring will swap right over, making that much a ton simpler. Otherwise not much difference.

As mentioned, look for one in great condition, that will save a ton to start with. I would look for one with a great interior, AC, And a great body. But if your area is anything close to here, the pickings are slim, more of a take what ever you can find deal.

you ABSOLUTELY need to change the rearends as the half ton stuff will break in half from the Diesel
Years back, we had a member near allentown that dropped a cummins in a half ton, keeping the original axles. Mainly used on the farm. He had it at least three years and going strong last I head from him.

At least up to 90, the frames were specified by model and wheel base length, not engine. They were not hardened as in heating and cooling, but could be a harder rockwell score due to the alloy used.

This is the chart from 90, the 93 manual does not have one.
AD1,2,and 3 are D1,2,and 3.
D4 is 2wd RC, and D8 is 4wd RC.
AD5,6, and 7, are W 1,2, and 3.
