Have a Toshiba Sd-4900U that shows a power light when turned on but no display and the disc tray won't open open so I'm assuming it's junk unless you have any bright ideas. I don't.
Here's the current setup:
Sony tv that's HD capable but we don't pay the extra $10 a month for the service from Dish Network. Has an HDMI port.
Yamaha 6.1 surround receiver w/ 6.1 speaker setup. No HDMI port.
Component video to tv from receiver.
We own probably 30 DVD's none of which are Blu Ray. We rarely buy or rent DVD's anymore but sometimes do pay-per-view through the dish.
Here's the question:
I'm thinking a new $50 DVD player would be fine but should I pay another $30 for an upconverting player w/ a $30 HDMI direct from the player to the tv for 1080?
I really don't think a $150 Blu Ray player is necessary.
I see that there's a player out now that connects to your wireless internet (which I have) for netflix. Anyone have this? Sounds interesting. Is it pay per view or a monthly fee?
