I didn’t notice until disassembly that my old distributor had a plug on the back that the new billet Jegs distributor was missing. I went ahead and plugged everything back together, adjusted the timing, and it seems to run fine. What’s the extra plug for and do I need it?

A pic would help. I assume you had a dual pickup dist, and the new on is a single pickup. You will be fine, but look by your steering column in the engine compartment for a relay with two connectors, one has two wires, and the other has three. Unplug the two wire one and leave it off.

The dual pickup uses one for starting, and one for running. by unplugging the connector, you are forcing it to just use the one you have. Most people find it starts easier with just the run. The other was to help starting with all the emissions crap on, and working.

The one to the left of the firewall connector, to the right of the speedo cable. You can see the top connector is missing if you zoom in. I guess it is hanging just out of the pic. I have a better pic, but could not find it right away.
