went to a budys today. an we  started talken, an i noticed he had a dodge in his feild so i go look at it, its a 84 dodge short box 2wd /6 with a 4spd man did i light up. so i asked what do ya want, he says $500.00 i say ok, then he asks me what i am goin to do with my 89 ranger parked at his i said im not sure, pretty much he was hitten me up for parts off of it i told him i would swap him truck for truck he said deal :-D. i got the ranger for free an the motor is blown. the dodge has no dents from what i can see an 0 rust could use some paint but man am i happy :). so me an the ol man got a hotrod project for the winter, goin to yank out the /6 an build a mild 318 or 360.

he said some thing about the /6 leakin water or somethin. but after talkin to 440 a little more i am loven the turbo idea:-D So maby a turbo 318, i also found a 440 with 70,000 miles with a mild rv cam for 600 For just the motor or 700 with the trans. But the more i think about it i want to keep it a small block so i can keep the 4spd :-D. I got a bit to build her but plans do change, i am just glad we found a 2wd shorty, me an the ol man have ben lookin for years an couldnt find the right 1

There's a Duster in my area that the guy has owned since new. Its got a slant under the hood and is street driven and will run the 1/4 under 11 seconds. Its once sick little ride.

A Slant 6 is a waste of time and money, IMO.  Sure, you can build one and be different but I'd only do that if you have money to burn.  You can make a lot more power with a V8 with the same amount of money and effort.

Agreed, for most truck applications. In cars, they're fine. I'd rather have a 318 in my 82 Utiline than the slant that's in there.

Eh, I wouldn't want one in either if a hot rod is what I was building.  Gas sipper, sure, but not in  a play toy.

he could turbo the 6.  it would take less plumbling (just one turbo) and he'd get power and better economy than an 8.  it's just a thought if it's a play toy.

hey toxicdoc love the turbo /6 idea, i found a sight Tellin on how to turbo a /6 an seems much eaiser than a 318 or 360.. whats the stock hp on a /6? im not sure the shape of the block in it but all he said it leaked water but could be as easy as a bad water pump ect ect, but wheres a good place to get /6 performance parts? What can i do to it to up the hp a little besides the turbo? im new to /6s lol, after readin the site about that i told my dad an he kind of likes the whole idea of a turbo /6. we want to build it on a budget an all the work we can do are selfs, the guy said on the site he did it for $500.00 hell that gives me all winter long to gather parts lol IF its worth it

{gloating} 100 horsepower with the 1bbl stock IIRC

A turbo slant is OK, best to start with an early steel crank engine if you plan to hammer it all the time, and why else would you build a turbo slant to start with {lol}

I haven't turboed a slant 6, so I can't tell you specifics, but building one up has been done and there's a lot of info on the internet about it.

You have to make a few key decisions early on that will influence the build in its entirety - draw through or push through turbo if carbed, low compression with high boost or medium compression with low boost,  and a budget.

Low budget, how low?  Very low means rebuilding but using the stock internals with a thick head gasket to reduce the compression ratio.  You'd have to keep boost modest to prevent blowing up the pistons or breaking a rod (I'd still use ARP bolts no matter the budget).  that being said, you'll still have a fun ride with it.

Well i had a budy go do a comp test on the ol /6 an 0 on all so motor is shot but hey got a bit to decide. got a budy that found 383 with a trans for 600 comes with a fury lol, but hey 440 now if i decide to turbo a 318 do i got to go twins or could i run 1 say a T3 off of a ford tbird, mustang svo, or whats the best 1 to find?

I'd leave the compression alone, it's pretty low already. Water injection will allow for a higher compression ratio or higher boost level.

A small block V8 with a turbocharger would still be easier and cheaper in the long run, the leaning tower can be built into a beast yes, but none of the ones I have seen run for long at high output levels.

For the money the kit on Ebay can't be beat, even if the turbo needs a rebuild you can't buy a turbo, build an exhaust manifold + intake adapter and plumbing for the buy it now price {no}

Buy it, put it on a junkyard 318 or 360 and run it till it blows while you build an engine for use with a turbocharger.

Twins are nice but not needed, I have one 58mm T4 on my 440 and it's good for 7psi+, on a small block a turbo that size can do 15psi or more.
