5.7 Hemi swap

If you end up with an MDS engine, I highly recommend pulling the solenoids and plugging the holes. MDS is nothing but trouble and it makes the Hemi sound like shit.

The later the better, IMO. Early Hemi's had a lot of issues and they got gradually better, though some of the later engines still have valvetrain problems. Plus the later engines make more power. Beware truck exhaust manifolds as they tend to warp badly.
 
408 will technically make more power, as it's highly modified, but the stock 5.7L in my 18 2500 makes 383 HP and 400 ft lbs of torque, bone stock. That's not bad for a reliable, stock engine with no mods whatsoever. Then there is this...
