Got a free truck- engine says 361- 186 horse. The general stats appear to be the same as a 413, as well as the parts that go on it. Anybody know details about this engine?

It appears to be in good order, and sound great for a truck that has been sitting.

Thanks- Josh

Yes, and yet still bigger than a big small block like a 360. If it runs good drive it. Could have 516 closed chamber heads which would work well on it. Same forged crank as a 383 is very likely. Same rods as 383 and 400. Forget boring it so when its done, strip off the good stuff and stick it in a 400 or something. But drive it till you need to change it would be my advice.

I have a 361 in my D300 You have the same block as the 413. This is why most Hot Roders are now looking for them. It looks like you know most of the stock stats ,I looked in a few old Moper Hot Rodding Mags. for some biulding imfo. Most 383 parts will bolt up.

Since it's a B block, worst case scenario is that distributor access is easier than on a LA

The 361 had a smaller bore than the 413, the 61's bore was 4.12, the 13's bore was 4.18.

The 350 was a hemi and not a b motor

The 361 was basically a small bore 383, last used in passenger cars in 1966. I don't know when they stopped putting it in trucks, though.

That is correct.. came in the '58 Dodge Lancer & Desoto models.. The hemi motor was a 354 at that time but the 392 was also already available.

350-361-383-400 all "B" engines

383-413-426 Wedge-426 Hemi-440 all "RB" engines

and no, not a typo, they did produce a small bore "RB" engine with 383 cubic inches, just in Chryslers (I think) in 59-60, or something like that...:)

350s were in Plymouths, Dodge got 361s and Chryslers typically got 413s in the late 50s/early 60s. 350 only 1 or 2 years...
