I have a 1993 Dodge Ram Charger and coolant is getting into the engine block, the radiator is diverting the coolant into the engine and it is coming out of the tailpipe which is resulting in excessive white smoke and when you pull the dipstick from the engine you get sludge.

Any ideas, we are thinking that the head gasket is blown which is the reason that coolant is getting into the engine.

that appears to be the tell tale signs of a blown head gasket. not much you can do other then pressure up the coolant system to verify the leak and try to determine exactly were it is leaking and then you will most likely be pulling the heads.
good luck!

Alot of times with a blown head gasket, you can pull the radiator cap and see bubbles in the antifreeze. That will show that the gasket blew between the cylinder and the water jacket.

Sounds like a head gasket. You can pull the plugs and look for the really nasty ones to determine exactly which side is affected. Whatever you do, stop running that motor until you get it fixed. That sludge on the dipstick is what's being pumped thru the mains, rods and cam bearings. Run it too long and you're looking at a complete rebuild

When your finding water/sludge in the oil its time to remove the head and change the gasket before things stop running and you have a serious engine rebuild to do.

Welcome to the site just the same.

Dude when i was 18 i blew the head gasket in my 76 Buick Century. I know the signs by heart. You described them to a tee.Don't run the engine and get it fixed quick!

On a side note that car was a land yacht but went like a bat out of hell. It had a 350 in it. Plenty of room to have fun it it too!!!! ;D {cool}{cool}{cool}

Another thing to check is the timing chain cover on the small block. I had one on a 340 engine that had a pin hole in the aluminum port where the coolant flows. It was leaking slowly onto the timing chain and into the oil pan from there.
