volts too high

my 78 truck now has a 95 360, including the alternator. the volts at the battery and the ballast resistor read normal but the gauge in the dash reads off the scale. the ammeter in the dash reads normal. the alternator is wired the same as the original 318's. any suggestions?

Try taking a reading with your DVM at the gauge, to see if the gauge is reading correctly.
