ok i took my truck on the highway approximately 26miles last night and the vibration above 2000rpm witch is about 53 mph is horrible, truck felt like it was going to fall apart, what do i need to do to fix this?
next i have a 400bb with a 2bbl mated to a 4 speed (not np435) mated to a np203, 9.25 rear and d44 front with 3:55 gears, 33x9.50x15 tires and rims, now i have great torque at low speeds, but once in 3rd or 4th gear i have no power, i figured with this motor and gear ratio i should be able to stomp it and get something but nothing. and then she vibrates like like a playtoy in a porn shop, and getts noisey too. i can hear the sound of gears or a chain rolling together when the truck is moving and i put it in neutral, is this normal, i havn't noticed it ever before, and yes i have checked the fluid levels on the pumpkins, tranny, motor, and tcase, i have added friction modifier to both diffs should i do the same with the tranny and tcase?

First thing I would check is the rear output shaft/yoke on the transfer case and rear drive shaft slip joint. I had a lot of vibration coming from my rear slip joint. To pin down the problem, I removed the rear driveshaft and took the truck for a spin in 4wd. You could do this to confirm that the problem is from the transfer case back. From you're description though, it sounds like the trans or transfer case may be the source of the problem. As for the noise in neutral, it's hard to comment. Do think it's a new noise or you just haven't noticed it before, and how loud is it?

I have never noticed the noise before and for how loud is it, it is loud enough to hear over the engine and road noise. It sounds like gears or a chain running.

just finished the rebuild on my transfer case
as long as i owned the truck (75 318-727-203)
up around 65-70 mph i had a chain sound
it was not a steady sound the olny way to discribe
it is like it would hit the case bounce off (no noise)
and hit the case again. i never experanced much of
a vibration .
but i did rebuild it (i have not used it yet though ;D)

it was easy to do i paid 125 for the kit and 110 for the chain
plus i did buy the rebuild video tape 26.95 and that was a big help a tube of loc-tite 518 24.00 and bolth my front out and rear out put yoaks leaked so i got a speedi sleeve for them
18 and 14 and 5.cash for some shims
and about 4-8 hours (not sure i worked on it 10-30 minuts a day) was easy

i did also add a manual transmission filter to it(i do know it olny works when you are in reverse) but it is better than no filter and it increases the oil cap.

i also run this same trans filter on my 93-diesel getrag 5 speed and transfer case

ok i had the transfercase looked at by a professional tranny shop they said the chain was ok, and that my needle bearings were wearing, but that it should not cause any problems, this is the first time i have driven the truck since i reinstalled it. as far as the noise goes it sounds more like gears now that i have had the opportunity to listen more closely, makes the same sound as the ring and pinion do when i have the vehicle jacked up and turn the axles. i did find a leak in the transfer case at the front output shaft, but it is leaking from the yoke area.where my cv joint connects, and doug you can come and drive it and i will stay back you will agree about the playtoy thing. ohh yes and i would rebuild it if it wasn't for the cost of doing it. i have other priorities right now, is there another way that isn' t soo damn expensive

ok guys i might have figured this out, this is how and you confirm,
first off the front and rear drive shafts have been balanced in the last 6mnths. i did index all the ujoints wich are new also. however i have an externally balanced engine, and my fly wheel isnot balanced, could this be the cause of my vibration? i have checked everything else i can thnk of, and checked with the guy that did my drive shafts and he said that every drive shaft he works on gets balanced when he is done, so sound off on what you think

yes improper balance can do it.

my 318 had a 360 converter on it
and mine did not vibrate

my sbc 400 had a 350 flex plate on it ad it
ended up braking the plate and did vibrate badly
(that is why i got a good deal on it)
