I have a 1990 D150 and lately is has been weird. When accelerating from a dead stop it jumps and shakes real bad. It also takes forever for it to shift after it is moving. And it is making a funny noise "ping, clank". I replaced the trany filter today and when i dropped the pan i saw an O-ring thing that looked like it was in the wrong place. I will have pics on webshots in the morning. Please help do i need a new trany.

That does NOT sound good, but I'm not an automatic trans maven... the picture(s) will help those who are.

That doesn't look like an O-ring to me. what is it made out of? It is definitely not supposed to be there. was there any metal shavings in the fluid? I would not say you need a new tranny, but maybe a rebuild/repair.

I have no idea what that is...There wasn't anything like that in the 904 I tore apart awhile ago.

Don't let the automatic transmission scare you, with a good manual you can tear it apart and have it back together in no time. If the clutch pack fell apart you will have to pull the tranny and replace the clutch pack, I'd do a full rebuild since it has to be torn down.
