I have a 98 4x4 with 239000 miles has run great, no major repairs ever. Today it decided not to shift beyond 2nd gear then within a few miles not shifting out of first. Still pulls good off the line no slippage just won't shift up! Fluid is full red and not burnt.
I noticed another question on a 97 but it was an update and did not spell out the initial problem.
Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

WEll i don't know a hell of alot aboutthe newwer rigs but isnt's there module that tells the tranny when to shift ? I know it's computer related though by what u are describing .

After further investigation the trans has been pronounced DOA, began making noise and not wanting to do drive reverse shifts. Dealer said it had gone into a programmed limp home mode. Thanks for the feedback.

You might be best to see if the dealer's parts man has any special deals on Factory Rebuilt tranny's. They usually come with a longer warranty and are an overall cheaper repair. Also the rebuild should come out with all the updates already installed on it. Most time if they rebuild it themselves at the dealer, they will nickel and dime you to death on the updates and extra parts. Check into it.

Has anyone got info on a swap from auto to standard? I have read nothing but good reviews on the NV 4500 5 speed.
