Today I took my 89 RC for a spin while at work, and when i pulled back in my parking spot I realized a nice puddle of ATF under my car. This then happened multiple other times throughout the Day. The leak does not seem to occur while the car is in neutral, just after I drive it and put it back into park. I was not able to really get under the car to see where it was coming from on the tranny, but the leak appeared to be from the front or middle of the transmission.

I jsut want to know what may be wrong, (seal, etc.) and how much it would cost to have it done (ballpark), because i dont have time to do this myself right now.

Im just praying that I dont end up replacing the whole tranny.

Please help,
Brian

With any luck it's just the o-ring on the dipstick. Sounds like the leak i had.

Mine needs a o-ring at the shifter on the tranny.. leaks bad!!! Yours might leak bad in a certain gear position.. worth checking out.

Might be something as simple as the trans lines have loosened up enough over time that they are leaking. Check them first. Snug them up if they need it. Clean the entire trans oil covered area with break or carb cleaner so you can tell where the leak is coming from. Other common sources of leaking are the convertor seal, or the shift shaft seal in addition to the dipstick tube o-ring. If all these check out ok, the factory rubber seal around the neutral saftey switch / back-up light switch could be bad causing the leak. Have you checked the pan bolts and retorqued them? Just my .02, cut the simple stuff is the cheapest to fix, just a little maintenance and some time....

Craw under there with a flashlight and a rag and check. Thats the est way to find out where its leaking. Do you know what side it is leaking out of?
