I'm trying to remove and replace my timing chain and gears (1986 RC with a 318 engine) but I can't get the vibration damper bolt to break loose. I've removed the starter and jammed a screw driver into the flywheel gear to keep it from turning. Does the bolt have left hand threads? Would it be OK to use an electric impact wrench on it? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help.

No they're right hand, counter-clockwise to remove. Try using a piece of pipe over the breaker bar for more leverage. A screwdriver will work, remove the dust shield and jam it on the lower passenger side. Another way is to take a spark plug out and use rope to stop the pistons upward movement on the compression stroke.
