Is it possible that a replacement set (chain and gears) from the Zone could have bad timing marks?? I installed and lined everything up but it is way off! I think I may have screwed myself by putting too much faith in their parts. If I'm gonna dismantle it, how far should I go to make sure everything is cool?

did ya get a stock replacement set or a double roller set? you are gonna have to tear the front end back down anyway, might as well degree the cam while you are there. also, are you sure that all of your wires and everythign are put back correctly?

when you say it is way off, what exactly do you mean? is the distributor in correctly or 180 degrees off? were you sure you ahd number one cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke when oyu replaced wires?

these are a few thigns i can think of right now

I had put #1 @TDC and checked the dist. but it is acting like I did not. I did a visual on the dist. gear also and it looked intact but I did not turn anything while inspecting this gear. Could the dist. drive gear be shot? Is it plastic or just look like it?

just out of curiosity, how did you find TDC? did you place finger in hole and turn engine over until you felt compression? if so, did you back engine up to line up timing marks? if not then this could be prob, a freind of mine and i worked on his truck for 2 days trying to get it to start only to realize we hadnt done this, so we were always one tower off on the wires, once we did that and reset the wires it fired right up

the distributor gears on a 225 is nylon. i just went through this same thing on a 77 aspen that had problems to... check the gear and make sure you timed it right... those nylon gears are usually like between $5-10 at most parts places.... i went through 2 due to my stupidity and broke the first one

well thats my 2 cents on this subject hope ya get it runnin
