Aloha dear friends of more or less useful and eco-friendly vehicles ;)

About ten days ago i had the opportunity to inspect and drive a '05 SRT-10.
Pristine condition, 19k miles on the odometer, smells like a new truck.

Looking it up in the dictionary, there was a picture of that particular vehicle next to the word "pristine" ;D

Long story short, driving the beast put the kind of smile on my face that can not be removed by surgery.

The price was very fair.
A set of new tires, the factory exhaust (removed and stored at 9k mls), factory headlights (again, r & s at 9k
mls) and other parts were included.
A fresh certificate of roadworthiness was included as well.

A week later - last saturday - good friends of me (at least one advocating against it) and i went and picked it up.
I was surprised that it pulled a solid 17.7mpg doing 70-75mph

Even the bedliner is pristine.

This is not a project truck per-se but it will receive a few modifications over time.
I can't keep my hands off stuff as you might have noticed over the years ;D

First modification, right off the bat:
The 4" MBRP cat-back exhaust system that is under the truck at the moment is waaaay too loud for my ears and has a lot of drone to it at certain speeds.
It gets old really quick and already annoys my neighbours.

The factory exhaust will be reinstalled today.

Also the wheel spacer plates will be removed (it has 5mm front and 20mm rear plates at the moment).
The rear wheels stick out too far...

Also all of the LED replacement bulbs will be replaced with incandescent bulbs as per factory specs.
The interior lights had all kinds of wonky problems with these and i occasionally get a "lamp out" indicator in the cluster.

I will keep you updated but don't expect a lot of wrenching on this in the next weeks.

No wonder i could not listen to any music in this truck...
This 4.5" megaphone drowned out everything.

The factory exhaust slipped in no problem. The truck is just as clean underneath as it is topside.
Awesome.

Not-so-awesome is my findings on the rear axle:
The pinion seal weeps a bit and one of the two previous owners shortened the axle studs when the spacer plates were installed.
Needs new studs...

Can you put the thinner spacers off the front onto the rear & call it good?
That wouldn't work, the studs are already too short.

spacers ? they moved the wheels OUTWARD ? so your trying to use rims that are thicker at the lug nut area ? making the studs ,    that had spacers AND rims ,      now too short ?  I'd of thought use of spacers would require LONGER studs not shorter , I'm not understanding this.....

Sorry.

They are more like wheel adapters.
They have two 5-bolt bolt-circles where one has recessed holes and bolts to the axle hub.
To clear the wheel, the studs on the hub have to be shortened.

The other bolt circle has the studs for the wheel.

Thank you  ;D

Can't wait to get it registered.
I am wondering if they will allow me to put winter tires on spare wheels.
The spare apparently is a 20x10" steel wheel...

Aaaaand it's registered.

I replaced all of the old LED lights one of the previous owners installed.
While doing so, i found why the LED turn signals did not produce the kind of problems i expected to see:

There are two black boxes on the truck (the other one has been bolted to the rearmost crossmember on the frame).

Each box contains two BULBS acting as resistors to each LED.

Great idea, very well done, (watertight boxes, heatshrink, corrugated tubing, etc.) very obsolete now.
I don't like LEDs that much...

I also ordered a bunch of replacement bulbs because the 3057s and 4157s are not common over here...

Staying true with my habit of naming vehicles after their first owners, meet "Johann".
My neighbour calls it "Monster".
Johann, the monster.

Kinda fits in ;D

This truck is an absolute blast to drive.

I begin to assume one of the POs must have unsoldered or completely removed the beeper/chime in the cluster.
There's none of the electronic sounds this truck should make.

Not a single beep, chime, whatsoever.
This get's a bit annoying when you're trying to program a feature and fail for the umpteenth time because you're waiting for the truck to beep to signal programming mode.  ::)
