I've decided instead of fixin that crappy full-time front end on my '79, I'm gonna swap it out with a newer model. The newer one is a CAD unit, probably 88 or so. I know I can lock the CAD and still keep my full-time. My question is; is this a bolt-on swap, or are my steering linkages and all that crap gonna be different? Should I expect any surprises?

Or... you could do as I did and just replace the steering knuckle/rotor/hub assembly with one form a newer dodge. I got mine form an '87 RC, it bolted right in. This will give you a non-cad axle with manual locking hubs.

Make shure the gears are the same ratio, or do as loosewheelbob says, and change from the knuckles out. this will also give you a good excuse to change the ball joints, Ujoints, seals, Etc

Well, got the front end bolted up today, and all is well. Next payday will see new balljoints, seals, ujoints, pack-job, etc. Tomorrow I'll be putting in the rear-end to go with it. The nice thing about it is I am going from those crappy 3.23's to a more sensible 3.55. Any body wanna buy a front and rear end? whole set rotor-rotor, drum-drum. Dana 44 and Chry 8 3/4.

Well, got the rear installed today and drove it home. (200 miles). All went well and smooth sailin'. Thanks, Ken. Next time you talk to that tire shop, tell 'em they owe you for screwin me on the wheels. I didn't pay enough attention, and the rims I got are - (2) 15x8, and (2) 15x10. What's worse, the 10's neither match the 8's, nor do they match each other. The guy that had 'em had a tattoo under his eye that looked like a handcuff or some stupid crap. Ya might give 'em a call and see if they have the other 2 rims, and if so I can stop in and swap with 'em next time I go thru OKC. Thanks a million. I appreciate everything.
