I'm thinking about putting the 727 from my 84 into my 90. Reason? The 518 in the 90 is tired. It took a lot of abuse from the previous owner. The 727 is in great shape, only about 50k on a rebuild. And, the deciding factor is it is cheaper to put the 727 in rather than have the 518 rebuilt (or attempt it myself).

I have read here about how the cross members are different. Has anybody actually done this swap? Since I have the complete 84, can I use the cross member from it or will it be necessary to have some custom work done?

Thanks,
Ted

I'd use the 84 crossmember, you might have to drill some holes or they could already be there, exhaust could need a little massaging also. Oh, you have to scrounge a drivshaft up too, or have a new tube cut for yours.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I'm thinking the driveshaft from the 84 would be the correct length, right?

Oh, and btw, this is probably going behind a 440. Was a 318 originally.

Yeah, the 84 shaft will work, didn't see that. You will need case or bb tranny for the 440.

Unless something gets screwed up (which I doubt), I'll have the 440, the tranny, and the transfer case (all from the same truck) :)

Thanks for your help.
