It might work.
72 to 93 should all fit but the wiring inside is most likely different and 2wd dont fit in a 4x4
Have you tried the following for a column?
www.car-part.com
www.junkyarddog.com
www.columnsgalore.com
any 80's should work
well i went to the local boneyard and asked the guy for the interchange. he looked it up on the computer and the computer said i can only use a '79 or an '80 column from a 4x4. they have a 79 but the key is gone. well.i guess the search will continue.

These guys ROCK!!! I get 5-6 junk mails everytime I use them, but they got a BIG network!! ;D
72-78 I *think* are the same. In 79(?) they changed the columns, moving the rag joint from the steering box end up to the firewall. Somewhere along the line they also changed the splines for the steering wheel. I would think that anything pre-79 would be a no-go for you, at least not easily.

well i leanred something else yesterday.... i can only swap in a 79-80 tilt column. i found a non-tilt column with a key in a '79 w200 at the jy and started taking it out then saw the wire connections are different. i guess the search still continues....
You need a 79-80 column, 78 is different. Tilt and non-tilt wiring should be the same. Look at your tilt column wiring at the switch under the dash. Trace that back a foot or so and you should see where it plugs into the standard non-tilt wiring. The tilt columns I have looked at; all worked this way. I believe this was because the tilt column was made by gm.

You may be able to repair your tilt column depending on what's broken. I think tilt is a neat option so I would try to repair or replace with another tilt column.

thanks a lot man! after i read this i ran out and looked at my trail duster and sure enough, two more plugs. well,i'm off to the jy to grab that column i guess!
You can use the tilt column with no key. All you have to do is swap out the ignition switch for the one in your truck. It only takes like an hour, if that. Just need a steering wheel puller.
