89 RC, 318, auto. how can i tell if i have a nippondenso starter? the haynes manual isnt really clear on the subject. also, can the DIYer rebuild a starter, or is it best to let a pro do it?
The Nippondenso starter will have a sticker on it that says "Nippondenso".
I believe that all the starters used from 87 up are Nippondenso made. Much like the alternators, Chrysler stopped making them in house in favor of the Nippos. Cheaper and better.
Even the Mopar Performance starter is a Nippondenso.
