Twister said "I want that spare tire out of the inside! Fix it!"

Here's the result. Gave me a chance to get aquainted with my new welder.

About 400 mile of trail on it so far and it is working great. I can open the hatch with it closed, and swing it out to clear the tailgate, and it doesn't block the tail light.

Pure genius :) But don't stop there. Now all you need to do is make a swing out sh**ter, and you're stlyin' ;D
Nice job

Dan
Thats nice. Did you have to add a leaf at the back? ;)
nice work GP, i like those welds. Is your new welder a tig or mig?
the welds look like tig beads, or you know how to use a mig. I just bought a lincon SP-175 mig this summer, wow, what a beautiful welder! it welds sweet. its got this cool feature called burn back, when you let go of the trigger it pulls the wire back out of the puddle.
Shane
man, nice welds GP, but are you sure it's stout enough?????
thats the wrong smiley, meant sarcastically
ok, not really sacasticlly, more tounge in cheeck, cause you know, it is nicly overbuilt! happy t-day!

That was done with my new Snap-On MIG welder. It's such a good welder, it makes even me look good.

Elvez, the material I used was formerly the tongue of my car hauler trailer. I replaced it because it was too lightweight and recycled it for this project. It's actually such thin gauge stuff that that carrier is very lightweight considering. The tire is the heavy part.
Nice job GP!
Is it pretty solid when open being on one hinge. (one monster hinge that is).Looks great.
Timbo
It's ok, there is some slop in it because it's just a sleeve over the pin. If I were doing it over, I'd incorporate some kind of tapered bearing like a wheel bearing in it to remove the slop and let it swing more easily.

It's not bad as it is, just not perfect. When it's latched, there's no slop or movement at all. Also, almost all the weight is off the hinge when it's latched.
How too How too!
DAMN !!!!!!! That is the best rear bumper i have seen done home grown style in a long while man . Be glad u get no rain there man though . U gonna give it some protection against the weather ? GOOD job man  .

Both the bumper and the carrier are painted the special Ramus Shade-O-Brown.
That's sweet! Good work, GunPilot.
Awesome GP, pure and simple!
In reference to your "next time" comment above, find an old front spindle to use as the main mount, the hub and bearings would then provide the rotating ease... trim the hub flange leaving one tab the width of the bracket iron to weld to...

Altho the welding heat would probably warp the hub a bit, that shouldn't matter in this comparatively "low stress" use.
That looks awsome there GP. Your one hell of a "get her done" type guy. {cool}

This is the first time I've seen this
Excellent work!
That looks awesome. Could you do a how-to on it? I would love to have one like that. You think it could hold a 35?
