I came across some info and thought I would share.  Looking for places to explore offroad here in Central PA I have found alot of gates and posted signs.  Strip mines have went past there time period to be developed and people and the game commission have bought them up.

When we went camping at Fowler's Hollow State Park Campground, I learned some new info about State Forests and how you can backpack camp any were you like in State forest as long as the site meets a few criteria.

I have now found that you can do the same with your car, truck, motorcycle etc. And it is free (just have to make a reservation)

The term is dispersed camping, known recently by the tern overlanding.

My family have been kicking this idea around for awhile.

Turns out the Bald Eagle State Forest is one of these such places.

Learned about a company called Purple lizard who have mapped the roads and campsites you can explore.

If there is some interest I will post links and more info.

We have 2 more scheduled camping weekends and then we will hopefully get a chance to check into this new opportunity for us.

At 50+ my wife and I are too old to sleep on the ground.  ;D

Our idea of camping is an RV or our camper in Huntingdon co. I found an old 74 Dodge 26ft RV it is nice shape for $1300. I haven't called yet because I don't have the cash since we bought the bike but it would be nice to have.

but hey I'm always game for more info on trails and water falls in PA.  {cool}

Haven't had a chance to get to Bald Eagle State Forest yet, but the son and I have been getting offroad quite often with the game lands opened up for hunting season.

I did learn that some of the dispersed camping in the State Forest can accommodate Camper trailers.

Really looking forward to getting a map and hitting the wild outdoors.

So, we have been using our State Forests to get away from the crazy packed campgrounds.

Nothing better than camping where no one else is.

Wanted to share in case anyone driving through the area would like to leave the highway behind and take a stroll through the forests of Central PA.

This works with Google maps so as long as you have a cellphone with the Google Map app you can follow the path

I update it as i get out to the different places. There are some campsites on it and mostly forest roads. A pickup or ramcharger type vehicle can go about anywhere. We ran all the included routes in Both my Ram 2500 Crew Cab Longbed and our Jeep Cherokee cute Ute.

The link.

Got any places you’ve been to closer or east of Lancaster? Harrisburg is about 2.5 hours from me. I wanna take the girlfriend on some trails in the RC.

Michaux SF and Tuscarora SF are a bit closer to you...but I have not adventured much there.

Weiser SF is near you...but I do not know much about it at all.

You can download the public use map to get an idea where the trails are.

I love this area. Been here 44 years now. Still find new places to check out.

My son loves to find the towers.

I have been to Holland brothers a time or two...haha

The wilderness around Jtown Eburg and Al Tuna is wonderful. The cities themselves. Well they leave a lot to be desired lol.

After living up the mountain from altoona for years...i now reside in the Juniata Section.

But I am only 3 blocks from work...lol
