Seems obvious, but before I screw something up, 93W150, NV4500:

To remove the shift lever (the 16" stick) all I need to do is wrench it off counter clockwise, right?

I'm putting a new mat on the floor. The FSM kinda says I can but I didn't want to f-up the retainer, spring or pins below the trans cover. Thanks.

shift shaft on a nv4500 should screw off, exposing the stub. On the early nv4500s like yours, they have a steel retainer holding the stub that is removed just like dodgeboys said- same/similar as shaft on a np435. I always have trouble putting the those things back in so I hate removing that steel collar unless trans coming out.

Ah okay. I figured with the threads there that could work but wondered if wrenching it would mess something up below. Understand now.

So I'll try unthreading it so I don't have to deal with that retainer, spring and pins. That could save me a real headache cause if you have difficulty, it'll probably be a real pain in the a$$ for me. Thanks.
