Hindsight is 20/20..  If I had it to do over, I would consider rebuilding it, or shipping it to a shop I saw on-line that specializes in rebuilding only steering columns.. at least you know what you are getting - it being your part..

    Just my opinion... back in the day you could get reliable used parts from auto yards, people used to disassemble whatever and lay the unwanted parts aside.. many times as a teen, I often found half of the disassembly already done, or the part needed lying inside the vehicle.. 
Today.... people rip the vehicles up, collateral damage to everything that's in their way.  Also most parts are often worn well beyond the one you are probably replacing. So I no longer see that as a cost effective safe solution.. unless you're talking bumpers, doors, hoods, extra stock rims.. etc etc..     

I will update with pics how this turns out. Thanks for your information..
