RCC Chapter Moab trip Oct 10-13th

I'm planning a RCC Chapter trip to Moab in October, probably the 10th-13th. That might be a holiday weekend for some.

Everyone is invited!

We'll probably run a couple of the moderate trails, not everyone can run the difficult trails. If you still can't wheel, I'm sure you can ride with some one else.

So who's up for it?

O Hell Yea
oh im sooooo there
That sounds good. I'll have to put that on the calendar. I should have some vacation time by then. ;D
We might have a decent sized group. I've posted this in the ID, WY, CO, NM, AZ, NV, CA and of course UT chapter boards. All ready we're getting some positive reaction. This should be fun.
Maybe, I'll try damn hard.
We have campsites reserved with some friends to go do the White Rim trail in Canyonlands, in early Oct. for 3 days (not positive on the date) so if they coincide, I'll try to hook-up with ya'all. If not maybe I can extend my vaction to a week. Who knows!

I've already replied to this in the WY board but I figured I better reply here too. I'd love to go but I might be elk hunting that weekend or still hoarding my money to go elk hunting on or about Nov. 1st. Not sure when the hunt trip will be yet because we haven't found out the results of the drawing. Thanks for the invite though.

They are straight, I committed to this elk hunting trip two month's ago when I applied for the drawing. Anyway, me and my dad go elk hunting somewhere in the state every year, it is understood by both of us that we are going and not to make other plans. I found out today that we drew the tags we wanted and will be elk hunting from Nov 1st to the 10th again this year. WOOHOO, I can hardly wait. Once again, thanks for the invite.

The Arizona people are getting spooled up for this. So far we have some good responses to the proposal. We should have a good showing.
I'd probably go, but I can't take off that weekend plus I'm in Moab for about 10 days to 2 weeks at the end of August/beginning of September scouting some trails...

Have fun guys

LOL, that's a rock solid, "maybe". ;)

So far it looks like the Utah chapter will be out numbered by the Arizona chapter, in our own state! ;D Thats ok, this is going to be great fun. I'm excited already.

It's 3 month away, and I already don't think I'll be ready. I gotta get going!
FYI, I posted this on the AZ board...

I did some checking, and Moab's average October temps are around 74F in the day, and 40F at night. So it should be quite pleasant. But plan for extremes, it could be cold and snowing or 95F and sunny, anything is possible.

For camping, I recommend the KOA. It's about 2 miles south of town, on the east side of the highway. Thats where I usually stay. The cabins are nice, the tent sites are ok, and the "facilities" are nice, clean, and private too. If you tent, you will be sleeping on sand.

There is also the Slickrock Campground which many people like. It's at the north end of town near the Colorado River on the west side of the highway. I was just looking at their web site and the cabins are cheaper there. My brother has stayed there at the Slickrock Campground, I'll ask him how he liked it tommorrow.

Basiclly, I expect it go kinda like this. Friday, mostly travel, maybe meet in the evening for those that are there, and go visit the near by attractions like Potato Salad Hill and Lion's Back, or wander the many tourist shops in town. Maybe we'll even cruise out to the Proving Grounds or Lower Helldorado just so people can check 'em out. Saturday and Sunday will be the major wheeling days. Monday will be light (kind of a cool down day), then head home Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

GP called them today, and posted....
Another group has reserved 15 cabins at the KOA, and there's 6 cabins left right now. If you want one you better jump on it! Their rates are slightly lower than stated on the website too.

Slickrock's cabins are all reserved already for that weekend. Both places have tent sites available.

There is also a very nice RV campsite at Ken's lake for those that have RV's. The only draw back is it is about a 15 min. drive to town.
Also, if we are unable to all camp together, and if anybody likes more primitive camping, and is camping out of there vehicle (no trailers) I know some very cool spots.
i dought i'll have my lift but i'll have my TBI and new tires.so i'll have to go to umm "test" it out
A quick note, for those that are planning to come to our little party.

Having a CB in your truck is very helpfull, but not required. It helps coordinating the meetings, and relay particulars about the trail obstacles to those following.

So if you can bring a CB, thats great. I've been sharing a CB and a magnet base anteanna between my tow rig and the RC. I just picked a water resistant Radioshack Sport CB on Ebay $15. So all I need is another anteanna and can set them up permanently in both rigs. ;D

Channel 4 is the commonly used channel in Moab by 4 wheelers, so lets use ch. 13 like they did for Ram Jam to try and avoid the cross talk. Does that sound good?
TV, I insist it must be channel 12, cuz thats the channel I usually use and I'm used to it!! ;D
Anyhoo, it looks as though I will be going and for anybody who might want to go to Moab a little early, I'll most likely be there the entire week before. So if anybody wants a tour guide be it 4wheelin, checkin out the national parks or hiking, I'll be there.

Well, 12 is exactly like 13 except that the little bitty vertical LED on the lower left side of the right side digit on the CB display is moved to the lower right side of the right side digit. :p haha

Alright, glad to hear you're coming Kendall. We will all rely on your wisdom and experience in selecting and finding the trails.
Do we have a rough count of people who've claimed to be going? This is shaping up to be one of the larger events I think...

Well, so far people that have said they are going, or are probably going is about 5 from Utah, about 7 from Arizona, and 1 from Colorado.

Yes this may be a fairly big event. It'll be about the size of a Texas chapter meet (LOL) or about half the size of Ram Jam! ;D

This is going to be a blast! {cool}
