Take lots of measurements. Know the exact measurements of the new unit your putting in before you purchase it. And what space is needed for the heater controls. Along with routing of the backside of those controls. Your going to need to fab up some sort of mounts for both the new touch screen and heater control unit.
Thinking and time involved to pull it off right.

Agreed. 95% of this job is going to be planning, thinking, engineering, and lots of analysis to see if it will work properly.

I doubt anybody here has pulled this off before. You'll most likely be the first ground breaker!
Most guys here are happy if their radio works. ;D
I would consider doing this... but not for a while. Since I've changed out my radio recently for the 10th time already. ;)

the BIG thing is gonna be the CABLES and IF theres enuf flex to move them , you could do a complete redesign and use store bought "choke" push-pull cables and move the heater controls Anywhere you want then

Thanks, I used a sheet of ABS from Amazon and some ABS glue from Home Depot to remodel the dash and had to frame out the heater control support using sheet steel scraps spot welded together. Its pretty solid and works great - if you look next to the cargo light switch I added a USB socket so I can play music off a thumb drive. It took a bit of messing about to get everything to line up and I still need to tidy up the silver lines around the screen but I am pretty pleased how it turned out. Actually I got the idea from a Mitsubishi 4x4 I owned years ago where this was a standard modification.

Cheers, my truck is am '84 w150 and I am building it as a daily driver so need all modern conveniences! Just need to work out how to hook up the AC to the 2001 Magnum 5.9 compressor!

just start a post on "vehicle help" and ask for the wiring diagrams - thats pretty easy

Atomic weirdo that looks exactly like what I want...
I haven't finished the truck yet, probably will have to take the dash out again in the next couple of weeks and I will take some photos of what's going on behind the plastic fascia so you can see what I did to make it work. Once you get over hacking up the OEM plastic dash its quite straightforward. I am thinking about buying another plastic surround as I could do a better job now I made the prototype.
