I tore the 4-speed apart today and discovered the shifter end has come out of the groove of the shift forks. And I slid one of the shift forks back by hand and now cant put it to where it originally was. How do I put this thing back together?!
This is like the GM SM 465 trans? Toploaded shifter? You have to make sure that reverse is not engaged and other 2 shift rings are in neutral. As I recall the reverse shift ring has to be partially engaged to install the top and have all forks engage all 3 shifter rings, also called sliders. It is a pain in the butt for novices but it can be done. It took me 4 or 5 times to get it all meshing and without ruining the gasket.
