I have a 90 W250 with an auto transmission. What is the proper way to check the fluid. My manual says leave in Park after running through the gears, when checking the dip stick. My dipstick says on it, leave in neutral after running through the gears, when checking the dip stick. Which of these is the correct method, or is there another way? Thanks.

I always put it in neutral, of course on level ground.  I don't believe the fluid circulates in park in these years of trannys.  However after a tranny rebuild, you can drill proper holes to allow fluid to circulate in park as well, but it's not that way from factory.  Also, have the fluid "warm" when you check it.  In other words, drive around the block first.

Leave it in neutral (and make sure your truck won't roll when checking it)

Nevermind, I got beat, so I'll just say X2

Right, neutral once warm. Do yourself a favor and put a shift kit in. It'll last longer, and you'll be able to check it in park. It's safer that way and you'll eliminate the torque converter drainback.
