Hi all,

Has anybody here used a powertrax locker? If so, which of the two models they have was it, which rearend did you use it in, and how do you like it? I'm considering one for the 8 3/4 in my ramcharger, but I wanted some input before spending the money.

the ox locker is a cable actuated unit, available for both d44 and chrysler axels from what i understand

Powertrax makes the lockrite and the noslip. Te lockrite is a trypical oldschool lunchbox locker. Its cheap. It locks the diff. It also chirps the tires alot. The noslip is a very soft and noiseless model. Better suited to street use. But costs some more $$$

There's a guy I work with that has the powertrax and I think it's the lockright. He has a 9 1/4 and a 5spd and says you have to time the throttle and turning just right so it doesn't ratchet too bad in tight turns. The easy solution to having to rebuild the rearend is to put a magnet in the drain plug to pick up the metal particles and clean it off at fluid change time. I'm also sure that like anything you need a break-in period to establish a wear pattern and you should do a shorter fluid change interval for break-in.

Generally it sounds like the lockright is less than desireable (guy I know was disappointed). Better off with an actuated one or just a tight lsd.

Junk..well, that is one mans' opinion.

I have a lock right in my 9 1/4 on my big truck. I have had it for about 8-10 yrs now, running 350 HP, 4.56 gears, and 38-39" tires (they recommend 35" or less). I have been thru 2 housings now with it, and it was NOT the cause of the damage...my heavy foot and too good a traction was (I split the housing wide open on both axle tubes), lots of serious wheeling, and it still works great. I have seen no signs of any appreciable wear on it in the 8-10 yrs it has been in, nor have I had any problems with wear particles from anything in the rear (except the occasional water that creeps in when you do lots of playing in deep water & mud). I have had many on here say it is junk, but from my experiences, it is a reliable piece of equipment. If I had another truck to build with a 9 1/4, I would use it again with out hesitation. I do know that if it is not set up correctly, it will give you lots of problems with wear and play.

I would prefer an ARB, but they don't make them for the 9 1/4.

Ok,

I didn't really provide enough info on how the truck is used: It's an 86 2wd ramcharger with a pretty healthy 440, used only on the street. It will see some dragstrip use, but mostly street. I don't mind spending a good deal of money, but I'd like to get something that doesn't require disassembling the ring and pinion gears, something that I can install in my driveway. From the responses, I see that the lockright is not the way to go-I need better street manners than that. Anybody have experience with the noslip?
