Called around today trying to get some prices on the RV cam for my 318. A few ppl acted like I was on crack, and a few quoted me bout 4 different part #s. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!
RV cam is an old school term for a cam thats bigger then stock but not really a street rod cam. Back then you probably didn't have anymore then 4 or 5 choices for a cam so they got labeled RV, 3/4 race and full race cams. Might be some other terms but i'm not from that era. So that might be why people looked at you like your on crack. The reason other companies quoted you so many part numbers is because most manufactures would have about 20 different cams that would work in your engine. 4 or 5 of those cams would fall into the category of an RV cam. Its best to know what RPM range your operating in. Engine specs and type of vehicle its in to narrow down the cam choice that best suits you.
My personal preference for a 318 is Mopar Performance P4452759. Has a slight lope and will pull about 14 inches of vacuum. Any less that then and your brakes will start to get hard. I've used this cam in 1 318 and 2 360's and i like it alot. Another cam thats slightly smaller is P4452757. Its basically a 360 cam with slightly more exhaust duration and lift. Should idle smooth in a 318.
Well I'm most interested in low end tourque. The cam that summit quoted was the 4452757, 169.00 with lifters, special order. Thought after reading, I think the 759 may be my choice. Thanks for the input 300!!
www.manciniracing.com has them for 159. may pay a few more bucks for shipping though. Are you still using a 2 bbl carb? auto or manual transmission? What do you have for exhaust? 318 or 360 heads?
Its best to probably degree your cam in to make sure its right. 4 degrees too retarded with that cam and it will have less power then a stock 318 2 bbl
