Has anyone converted their pedal style parking brake to a lever style? I currently have no parking brake because all of the cables are so rusted I just cut them off just under the door and yanked everything else out with them. So when I replace all the cables I was thinking about trying to convert to lever style. Just wondering if anyone has done it or your opinions.

I have been considering this idea myself . It shouldn't be a problem to fabricate.

Because I have to replace EVERYTHING. I also think that it would be easier to use.

Has anyone here tried to fab a DIY trans brake??? Saw an article in 4WOR about something from TransTech or someone similar, but the pics weren't detailed enuff to see what the whole thing entailed...

Do you mean like a transfercase or trans mounted parking brake or a pinion mounted one? I thought about that myself, but that would be a lot of work, because you'd have fab all of the mounts and stuff, and because I have a np 208 t case(aluminum), I don't really think its a good idea to weld all of that stuff to it. Might be a different story if you have a 203 or a 205.

I don't think going to a middle mounted handle operated e-brake is a bad idea. One BIG thing is that you can move the cable to the middle of the truck and get it OUT of the spray from the ft tires. I don't think I have ever replaced a ft cable on one of these setups. On the dodge I have changed all the cables and my S10 is probably due too.
Anyone ever do "cutting brakes" on a full size? (seperate controls for each rear wheel)

I am changing the PB to lock just the drivers rear wheel today. Then, tomorrow, it is off to pick and pull to find a center hand brake control for the right rear Parking Brake. It is my new poor-man's posi.... if i lift a wheel, i can slow it down with a little PBrake application. Also, I am going to try and increase ground clearance for all PB components because my wheeling group will head to the Rubicon and Gatekeeper in 1 month. :) Sure hope the 35" Nitto's are big enough....

That was one benifit that I thought of, and the fact that the front cable that comes from the pedal down through the cab is so rusted that I don't even know how I would get it out, which would mean that I have to cut it out which would mean that I would screw it up. :p I'll maybe look around at some of the J/Y's later this week and see if I can find a parking brake lever like how I want and the hardware with it and see what happens.

A lot of imports have a pull handle under the dash too, might want to watch for them too.

I want one that will come out of the floor, I'm thinking of mounting it by the t-case shifter because that is about the only place that I could put it and still be able to use it.

It would be alot easier to install a brake lock, you don't have park in your truck?

Nope, no park, thats why I need the parking brake LOL, no really I do have park tho. Never thought of a brake lock, could find one of those really cheap, just go find a 2x4 that is long enough and wedge it between the bottom of the seat frame and the brake pedal! But I have to go through and rebuild almost all of my brakes anyways, so I wanted an easier solution to the pedal style parking brake.
