Well, I got tired of not having a way to go get cars, and having to pass up good stuff at auctions because I have no way to get the stuff home. So I ordered an 18' car hauler. It has stake pockets so I can put sides on it as needed, but its primary use will be to haul vehicles. Should have it within 2 weeks. :D

I wouldn't be afraid to use that Dakota to pull a trailer around at all. I had a 94 Dakota reg cab., short bed V8 5 spd. that weighed in at 3,900 empty, so that probably weighs around 4,000-4,200 pounds alone.

The dakota should pull it no problem. I have a 96 Dak 5.2L with tow package. I also have an 18' car hauler with 1 axle with electric brakes. The Dak has pulled a full size van loaded from Az to FL, towed a 93 RC around town, RC is still on trailer, and a 75 PW W200 with a 383 in the front and a 400 in the bed. However, I only dared to tow all that with the electric brakes. You will aquire many "friends" once word gets out you have a trailer! :)

The Dak came with the blue plug tucked under the dash already. I just needed the pigtail to connect the brake controller to the truck's wiring. The kit also comes with a 7 to 4 wire adapter. The truck has the 7-wire RV style plug in the back. When I order my trailer (in FL) I had the old style Chrysler hubs bolt pattern (5x4.5) and had them put both 4 wire (lights only) and the RV style which has lights electric brakes and a wire for backup lights. The dak has the tranny cooler, P/S cooler, and I believe an oil cooler also.

I just might head down there one day and look for a used hauler myself. That, or build one. I'm still undecided.
