I was wondering if I have any options to a 5 speed other then finding one for my 4x4 off a 81-93 ram. I have looked every where and I cant find one. I am having a hard time just finding a 4 speed like I already have. If anyone has any ideas please email me.

I'm confused on what he is looking for. Is he looking for a 5 spd to go in a 81-93 truck?
There were 5 speeds on 81-93 trucks? Mhhh, interesing.
If it'd be me, I'd try finding a NV4500 and swap that in. mrpeal did that a couple of months back to someone's RC. Might even be in the how to section, not sure.
Other than a real 5 speed, maybe a gear splitter from gear vendors(?)
92 and 93 for sure had 5 spds and maybe 91 also but thats it. A female friend of mine has a 92 ram with 318 and 5 spd. She said 1st gear is a granny gear and have to start out in 2nd. So i'm assuming that the 92 and 93 rams used the NV4500 in half ton trucks with the 318. 94 up 318 1/2 ton trucks used the NV 3500
My truck is a 1991 318 4x4 I am looking for a 5 speed right now it has a 4 1st is granny. The gas mpg is killing me since I am a college student and this is my means of transportation.
The 5 speed won't help much...
You are pushing a very large frontal area through the wind, and that takes a lot of energy.

Really tall, narrow, hard tires at high inflation pressures, would be helpful, but not very "cool" looking.
Trust me it will help I am running 3500 RPM at 75 because of the gearing in the existing tranny the 5 speed will help bring the rpms down at highway speeds.
you could probably by a Civic for the price of what you want to do, heh heh.
NV4500 has a low first and of course the overdrive you re looking for. Advanced Adapters can help you out with more info and the can make you a bell housing to fit this in your ride. you may need an adapter to your transfer case, too.
Or don't drive so fast...
There are a couple of 5 speeds that could be swapped but the price for a rebuild is high and finding a used one can be difficult. The most desirable is the NV4500, but there was also the Getreg 5 speed that was offered. Another option is a Clark 5 speed, but it's over one hundered lbs heavier, and even harder to find then the 4500. You may luck out and find an automatic with overdrive.

Depending on the tire size you have and the gear ratio in your axles, you may or may not pick up a couple of MPG extra. The question is wether it will pay for itself in fuel in the long run. If you plan to keep the truck for a long time, it maybe worth it but then again, you may not recoup the cost in saved fuel.

3500 rpm at 75 mph? that dont' seem right unless he has 4.10 gears

3.91's with 235/75/15's or 4.10's with 30x 9.50's or 4.56 with 33's
Then he needs bigger tires or less gears. If he has a half ton then most likely it would have 3.55 or 3.21 gears
I have a 1993 1/2 ton dodge 318 with 5spd 4x4 and its a nv 4500, and indeed so the first is low and i usually take off in second gear, the 5th or overdrive gear provides a 27percent reduction in rpm. If you need one got car-part.com, they have a few there for sale ranging from 500 to 750 rebuilt, hope this helps, Frank
damn i was hoping to see some cheaper options on this one.i got the same problem i got a 435 with 33in tires and 3.23s i think. i turn 3000 rpms at 70 mph.i'm getting 12-14 mpg and would like more

You won't get any better then that. I have 31's in my 94 with overdrive and turn less then 2000 rpm at 70 mph and I only get 14 mpg. Also you shouldnt' be turning that many rpm. Go to www.4lo.com and plug in your numbers and see how many mph your really going. I did it for you and your doing 90 mph at 3000 rpm. remember to figure in your speedo when you change tire size.
ok maybe my tach is off because i paced a friend and we figured out my speedo read about 7 mph low after putting on the 33s so i'm probely turning less rpms than i'm showing i have an older led tach thats been in every car i'v had in the 10 years might be time to replace it but my milage still kills me i'm paying $1.80 a gallon for 87 octane and it costs me 75 bucks to go down state about 600 miles round trip
