Oil Pan Gasket (Yeah, you know the one I'm talking about...)

The little rubber peice that goes in right against the tranny inspection cover. For the second time in my ownership of this truck I've replaced the oil pan gasket, and both times it has leaked from right up there afterwards. What is the deal? Is there a trick I don't know about, or is it hopeless? I know you guys must have had this problem, so how do you avoid it?

i never cut the tabs off. I put some RTV at the corners and some underneath the rubber seal.
