The little rubber peice that goes in right against the tranny inspection cover. For the second time in my ownership of this truck I've replaced the oil pan gasket, and both times it has leaked from right up there afterwards. What is the deal? Is there a trick I don't know about, or is it hopeless? I know you guys must have had this problem, so how do you avoid it?

Try loosening the bolts on the pan so that it is hanging and there is space between the pan and your block but it is not detached all the way. You can drain the pan first. Get some RTV blue silicone sealant and spread some where it is leaking with a butter knife or whatever thin spreader you can think of. Don't be cheap with the silicone rubber, you can trim off the excess later. Tighten bolts to spec.

I don't cut the tabs off either. I put black RTV under and around the rubber pieces, with emphasis on where it met the cork gasket peices. I don't know... I got back into town this morning and my truck was driven while i was gone, but there wasnt a spot (or puddle) underneath. Maybe some nice large chunk worked itself in there and solved my problem. Or else maybe the tranny shop that had to replace my TC again (the screwed it up bad last time) felt bad and fixed my oil leak...
