Can anyone tell me if the filter base plate is removable? Does it just srew on? Is there a seal or gasket under it? I have been chasing a leak and think that it may be my problem. Thanks in advance!

What year and motor? There is usually a gasket under the plate and the plate should come off by removing the threaded fitting in the middle that the filter screws on to. I think you would be best to get the gasket from Dodge as someone else had a problem with the aftermarket gaskets they were using, they kept leaking, then he went to Dodge and got theirs and no more leak.

You may want to consider buying a new fitting as well. When I did mine, the hex dead on the fitting is so short that a wrench and a socket would both just slip off. I ended up using channel locks on the threads, which of course trashed them.
The new fitting I got from the dealer had a 3/8 square hole broached in the center so you can use a 3/4 rachet and extension, MUCH better design!
