Ok guys...new update....

I just spoke with a guy here in town who has a 87 R-C that is blown up. He wants the axles under it for his 3/4 ton truck but he doesn't want the rest of the R-C. It's in decent shape and pretty much complete.
I offered him $100 for the truck minus the axles. He's gonna let me know tonight or early tomorrow. If I got it I'll be picking it up first thing tomorrow and will have EVERYTHING I need to get mine back together.....

Oh yeah, it also has a 6 inch Leaf spring suspention lift under it...Springs have been rearched and stacked...Looks awesome with it's height...

I'm so excited LOL!

I think you have Florida confused with places it snows (ie: salt on the roads) ...Rust is not a big problem here, it's finding something not all dented up. The only vehicles around here that rust badly are the people who live right on the beaches, like with-in a half mile or so but inland you don't see to many.

99% of the R-C's down here are or were used for governmental or county use of some kind so you don't find to many that are private owned. Being County vehicles they get pretty beat up so it's unusual to see one with a straight body. The County vehicles are usually auctioned off and shipped either up north or overseas (Did you know an R-C will bring $8000 in Columbia) So they don't end up in the junk yards. Another thing that makes it hard is the fact Florida just passed a stupid law that requires the U-Pull-it lots to now HAVE to carry high limits of bodily injury insurance which has put 75% of the U-Pull-it's out of business here. You either pay TOP dollar for a used part at a "they" pull it lot or chances are you won't get what you need...It really sucks.

Updating the status of my project.
I purchased the R-C I mentioned in a previous post but this thing is in very bad shape. The parts i need are ok but the rest of the truck is in sad condition. So anywho, I'll be pulling anything and everything I can use off it tomorrow and Monday I'm hauling the rest to the scrap yard...If i failed to mention it before this R-C has a 6 inch (all spring) suspention lift under it so that too is coming off and will soon be under mine!
YEAH!!!! ;D

Thanks

New update (Saturday 8-17)

I now have the new door installed and all of the guts transfered over from the old door...Much better now, it opens & closes like a dream...(as a cruel joke I then drove over my old door to let it know just how much aggrivation it caused me ;D)
First things first I gutted the new door and sandblasted the door jamb on it to get the paint off (much easier then hand sanding all those curves) Primed the jamb, wet sanded it and shot it with the Hemi Orange. 4 hours later I hung it on the truck.

Anyhow, the ball is rolling now, I have now started the exterior of the door, the door has been rough sanded and i'm currently filling some very minor dings. It also had that upper chrome strip on it which my truck doesn't so I had to grind off the clip tabs. I should have it primed and wet sanded before I run out of daylight (Hopefully)

I'll update again shortly

I must say things wrong or use the wrong wording...I'm not mad or anything. I was just explaining the rusty car situation here...Cars rust out allot worse where it snows and they lay salt on the roads. Here the salt content is airborn and only lingers about a half mile or so from the beaches. If you live beyond that 1/2 mile or so you don't have any problems with rust.

No hard feelings i hope...

Sunday Update:

Ok I spent about 10 hours on her today, I finshed working the drivers door and have completed the final wet sand on the whole truck now...(Damn that's alot of work)

So she is ready for paint...Tomorrow I'm starting the small pieces I have to paint off the truck, Once those are done (Thurs or Fri) I'll be shooting the R-C.

Hopefully I can get a dry day here if not I'll have to continue waiting for one. It has rained everyday for the last 4 weeks and the humidity is out of this world so I'm surely not gonna paint it under those circumstances...

But anywho, as long as mother nature cooperates she'll be Hemi Orange by the weekend!

Jess,
Looks like you've got a good thing going. any other good parts on that rc? i need a back seat for my emt ram.
To be honest with you...There wasn't many when i got it ;D The Floor is completely gone in it so I guess the seats fell out years ago, it's basically a body which isn't in too good of shape either...I was able to salvage the drivers door and the 4 inch suspention lift out of it but thats about all. That was all I was interested in, the weather has ruined anything else that could have been saved.

8-24-02 Update:

The R-C is painted with the "Hemi" orange but I am unhappy with the color...When the paint was wet it was a perfect match for H/O but now that is has somewhat cured it is much darker then it should be... ???

A friend of mine came over tonight with his "Mint" Hemi orange 1970 Roadrunner Convertable. This car has the orignal paint and has always been garage kept so I know the paint is the correct shade on this car...Placing the car next to my R-C you can see a huge differance...the R-C has much more red in it...Looks like a half ripe tomato...ewww :p

So I am trying to decide if i should just leave it or try one more time to get the correct color from the paint shop...I still have another Gallon of orange in the garage from the first attempt to get the right color....and all the paint supply store can say is "Sorry, your asking for a color we haven't sold in 15 years" No excuse in my opinion, they should be prepared for all factory color requests shouldn't they????

I'll get some pic's up as soon as I can, I took some with my 35mm (damn Mavica) but still have like 15 pics left on the roll so can't get them developed yet.

Will keep this updated

If anyone stumbles upon a grill for an 89...please email me...

Thanks Jess

And I Agree with you 100%...I have been dealing with the "Big" paint supply store here in town, well the customer service isn't all that great so I'm going to go over and talk to the guy at the little family owned paint store and see what he says....

My question is....If you have the paint code, shouldn't a paint shop have the formula for that code? This shop I've been dealing with did everything with a computer matching system...
