Hey everyone,
I just purchased this 89 R-C as my new project vehicle. It has already changed alot since this picture was taken, all body work is completed and it is currently ready to be painted.
I plan on painting it "Hemi" orange with possibly two black stripes over the top (I haven't decided yet on the stripes) with-in the next week or so and will post more picks then.
I have also installed a 3 inch body lift and 4 inch suspention lift with RS9000 shocks. (I should have done this after I painted it as I cannot reach the roof now without a ladder.. DUH!) I intend on setting this on 38's if I can get them to fit. I also yanked the factory exhaust and went to a true Flowmaster dual system (No Cat) out the back with chrome tips.
I just located an old Winnebego with 46,000 miles and a 440 in it, I am trying to find a place to hide the RV until I can yank the engine and trans to put in this...

Alot more in the works and the pics will follow for those interested...Thank you

Welcome to RCC. Your getting off to a serious start. That 440 will get some attention. Send some pics of your progress.
I sure will, thank you for the welcome to RCC. I have been a member of the F-Body (1987 GTA Trans Am 38,000 Miles) forum for several years now and enjoy posting my progress for others to see. My GTA has transformed from a regular street vehicle to a car I am even scared to drive. Lots of $$ spent making it fast, I throughly enjoy what can be done with vehicles!

Wasn't this truck on E-bay recently? I know I've seen it before. I'm glad it found a good home, and I can't wait to see some updated pics.
Yes it was, I talked the seller into closing the auction early and selling it to me... I was gonna add the link but I got an error saying eBay is down for Scheduled Maintenance

I TOOK THE PIC's DOWN, I'LL HAVE MORE SOON!

Thanks guys,

I have taken some pics but they look horrid, I had to use my web cam as my Mavica keeps saying "No Disk" grrrrr!
Anywho, the web cam doesn't like outside pics so they always turn out bad unless I do it right before dark..
I'll get better ones up at a later time

Hey if anyone knows where I can obtain some parts lemme know please..I currently need a drivers door, Passenger door window, front bumper, and grille.

To comment on the previous post about getting a Fire Truck....It has big advantages, as in I know it was maintained being a fleet vehicle (I have all service records for it) It has the police package installed which is a heavy duty oil cooler, trans cooler, oversize radiator, and larger fuel injectors then standard R-C's have. Of course all of these things improve performance slightly but more then that they make the truck better to handle the torture I intend to put it through <eg>

If you look closely you can see I have already painted all of the door jambs so the color change is less noticable. I removed everything that should not be painted before spraying. The Passengers door had to be completely taken off the truck so it could get sprayed throughly. All weather stripping removed first.

Ok there you go, I won't be able to leave these pics up for very long as I have them stored on our Store's server http://www.jpgiftshop.com we need all the server space for our website. I'm going to try and find some free storage space I can move all of them too.

Thanks for all of the interest guys, I do apprecate it!.

I just thought of something else I'll need....One of those police lights for the A Pillar
It had one but they removed it I would "rather" replace it then just fiberglass the hole.

Thanks guys!

Thanks, Yeah it's moving along...My big hold up now is the drivers door. It is unrepairable and I can't find one locally. I wanted to paint it this weekend but have to wait until I find a door first.

I appreciate the offer on the light, but I would prefer a nice chrome one, all of the trucks moulding is chrome so it would "fit in" that way.

I could always shoot the truck this weekend and do the new door separately but I'm afraid of a color or shade differance if it isn't done all at once.

Thank you but I was thinking more in the line of used parts.

If this was a serious collectible like an older Vette, Stang, or Camaro, I'd surely want new parts but we are working on a 13 yr old Ramcharger here...Something I'm probobly gonna tear up anyway. hehehe ;D

Not much new to share but I did get most of the interior pulled out today.

Still no luck on finding a Drivers door so I still can't paint it yet. I hit about 10 JY's this weekend and all of the doors I did find were either dented up or rusted out so back to square one on that idea.

I'll keep this post updated as to where I'm at with it...Hopefully I can locate a good door this week and plan to paint it next weekend...

Thank you, I appreciate the link, I requested a Catalog

Well my new update is I have recieved my second Gallon of "Hemi" orange. The first gallon was not mixed to the right shade of orange so I really didn't want to use it...I ordered another gallon from a differant manufacturer and it arrived today...MUCH better color match to what my goal is so I'm gonna use this paint.

So things are progressing at a snails pace but I guess you don't want to rush this stuff either.... ::)
Rather do it right the first time then have to do it again later...

Ok guys...new update....

I just spoke with a guy here in town who has a 87 R-C that is blown up. He wants the axles under it for his 3/4 ton truck but he doesn't want the rest of the R-C. It's in decent shape and pretty much complete.
I offered him $100 for the truck minus the axles. He's gonna let me know tonight or early tomorrow. If I got it I'll be picking it up first thing tomorrow and will have EVERYTHING I need to get mine back together.....

Oh yeah, it also has a 6 inch Leaf spring suspention lift under it...Springs have been rearched and stacked...Looks awesome with it's height...

I'm so excited LOL!

Your project sound like it is coming along just fine. I replaced the Passanger door on my Power Wagon today. Must suck out the in FL. with rusted out body panels. Here in CA. I just picked up a used door for $20. Totally strait and rust free!!! HaHaHa! J/K keep up the good work bro....
Steve
I think you have Florida confused with places it snows (ie: salt on the roads) ...Rust is not a big problem here, it's finding something not all dented up. The only vehicles around here that rust badly are the people who live right on the beaches, like with-in a half mile or so but inland you don't see to many.

99% of the R-C's down here are or were used for governmental or county use of some kind so you don't find to many that are private owned. Being County vehicles they get pretty beat up so it's unusual to see one with a straight body. The County vehicles are usually auctioned off and shipped either up north or overseas (Did you know an R-C will bring $8000 in Columbia) So they don't end up in the junk yards. Another thing that makes it hard is the fact Florida just passed a stupid law that requires the U-Pull-it lots to now HAVE to carry high limits of bodily injury insurance which has put 75% of the U-Pull-it's out of business here. You either pay TOP dollar for a used part at a "they" pull it lot or chances are you won't get what you need...It really sucks.

Updating the status of my project.
I purchased the R-C I mentioned in a previous post but this thing is in very bad shape. The parts i need are ok but the rest of the truck is in sad condition. So anywho, I'll be pulling anything and everything I can use off it tomorrow and Monday I'm hauling the rest to the scrap yard...If i failed to mention it before this R-C has a 6 inch (all spring) suspention lift under it so that too is coming off and will soon be under mine!
YEAH!!!! ;D

Thanks

New update (Saturday 8-17)

I now have the new door installed and all of the guts transfered over from the old door...Much better now, it opens & closes like a dream...(as a cruel joke I then drove over my old door to let it know just how much aggrivation it caused me ;D)
First things first I gutted the new door and sandblasted the door jamb on it to get the paint off (much easier then hand sanding all those curves) Primed the jamb, wet sanded it and shot it with the Hemi Orange. 4 hours later I hung it on the truck.

Anyhow, the ball is rolling now, I have now started the exterior of the door, the door has been rough sanded and i'm currently filling some very minor dings. It also had that upper chrome strip on it which my truck doesn't so I had to grind off the clip tabs. I should have it primed and wet sanded before I run out of daylight (Hopefully)

I'll update again shortly

If I made you angry sorry :-X Didn't mean to offend. Figured all the salt in FL. would rust vehicles out, guess not!
I must say things wrong or use the wrong wording...I'm not mad or anything. I was just explaining the rusty car situation here...Cars rust out allot worse where it snows and they lay salt on the roads. Here the salt content is airborn and only lingers about a half mile or so from the beaches. If you live beyond that 1/2 mile or so you don't have any problems with rust.

No hard feelings i hope...

Sunday Update:

Ok I spent about 10 hours on her today, I finshed working the drivers door and have completed the final wet sand on the whole truck now...(Damn that's alot of work)

So she is ready for paint...Tomorrow I'm starting the small pieces I have to paint off the truck, Once those are done (Thurs or Fri) I'll be shooting the R-C.

Hopefully I can get a dry day here if not I'll have to continue waiting for one. It has rained everyday for the last 4 weeks and the humidity is out of this world so I'm surely not gonna paint it under those circumstances...

But anywho, as long as mother nature cooperates she'll be Hemi Orange by the weekend!

Jess,
Looks like you've got a good thing going. any other good parts on that rc? i need a back seat for my emt ram.
To be honest with you...There wasn't many when i got it ;D The Floor is completely gone in it so I guess the seats fell out years ago, it's basically a body which isn't in too good of shape either...I was able to salvage the drivers door and the 4 inch suspention lift out of it but thats about all. That was all I was interested in, the weather has ruined anything else that could have been saved.
