Is it really not charging or could the ammeter be defective (probably the case if it's your original one)? Hook up a voltmeter to find out. It should read around 14.5 volts when running, and 13 volts when off. If you're really attached to the ammeter, there's a 2" one in Summit that should fit in the factory hole. I don't have a catalog in front of me so I can't tell you for sure.

Ok, if you ran the charging wire from the alt right to the battery, the ammeter will not show charging. It will only show a discharge when any electrical item is on, including the ignition. If you want to keep the ammeter, you need to hook it up like this to accurately show charge/discharge.

I had the connections get loose on the back of the ammeter. The meter would not show much of anything. I took the dash front off, tightened the connections on the back of the ammeter with a small wrench and wha laa! big movement of the needle on the ammeter now!
