thought so.... are household speakers more or less ohms, cause im pretty sure you can install some kinda resistor ma-jigger to run a higher rated speaker on a smaller system.

buddy did it to something once but dont know if he used car speakers in the house or house speakers in the car.....

House speakers are usually higher ohm, like 8 or 12 ohms. Car subs are 4 ohm, but they do make them in 8. This allows you to bridge a 2 channel amp to one channell and run the speakers in parrallel and only pull 4 ohms from the amp.

all but one speaker in my house is 4 Ohm. All 4 subs in the livingroom are 4 Ohm; but to keep heat down in the amp & to keep from blowing them apart, I have them wired in series. L, R, LS, & RS are all 4 Ohm.
It'll be the little shelf systems that have all the oddball resistances in them. I've seen those run anywhere from 3-16 Ohm.
If his hoem speakers are an 8 Ohm load.. he'll be safer running his amp at a higher level without it clipping, distorting, or overdriving as much. The amps are built and rated to be run at max. You should adjust your signal input to get the proper levels from there.

In that case .. technically.. you're using the amp that's built into the receiver. since mobile audio is rated at 4 Ohms. that'll only give you 22.5W each. You can get some killer deals on amps if you just keep your eyes open. I bought a 380W (190 x2) for $100 new a few years back. It's waiting to go into my RamCharger to power a pair of speakers I'm going to install with quick connects. Mine need to be removeable because 1) they're my L & R channel for my home theatre and 2) I don't want to leave $2500 worth of speakers sitting around asking to be stolen. I just want to be able to use them for cruising. I had a few basic components hooked up in our old service truck and was hitting 131dB while cruising.

hmm, every kenwood and sony speaker cabinets I have had where all 8 ohm. They all contained the sub, mid and tweeter, maybe that is why?
Coincedence. On a few of the sony shelf systems I've seen the 3 Ohm. But generally.. the bigger companies will try to keep the individual components more iniform.
JBL offers several of thier speakers in 4, 8, or 16 Ohm depending on the application.
But basically, as you stated.. cabinets.. those are designed to be used with viturally any receiver. You'll find more odd reststances when you start looking at systems that were prepackaged. They may have an amp that wants to see an ideal load of 12 Ohms.. so they'll makes some speakers that match it.
Not a big deal.
Most of my house equiptment is all designed for commercial applications; bands & movie theatres. that's why mine is at 4 Ohms.

(2) 15" Pryamid subs 200rms/600peak
http://www.jcwhitney.com/item.jhtml?ITEMID=852&BQ=jcw2
(2) pairs of Pyramid 6x9 4-ways 300peak
http://www.jcwhitney.com/product.jhtml?CATID=165525&BQ=jcw2
(1) Legacy 2-way 800watt amp for the subs
url]http://www.jcwhitney.com/item.jhtml?ITEMID=179621&BQ=jcw2[/url]
(1) Legacy 4-way 1200watt amp for the 6x9s
http://www.jcwhitney.com/item.jhtml?ITEMID=179623&BQ=jcw2

All of that would technically work; but I don't think you'll be happy with your results.. Not because of the brands; but because You're matching the speakers MAX powerhandling; generally with the continuous output of the amps. If the objective is to have a nice rocking truck and keep it reasonably priced; Don't go overboard on the amps. Sub amp, you can leave as chosen.. powerwise.. but with specs(S/N ratio: >90 dB. THD: <0.4%.) like those.. You'd be just as well off to get an amp from Wal-Mart. try to get S/N to at least 95dB, adn distortion <0.09. still not great specs.. but you're not aiming for sound competion with it.
For the amp for the 6x9's.. find something that is around 75-200W continuous; with similar specs as the sub amp. and the speakers should last a while and sound pretty decent.

well i was just thinking them cuz they were fairly cheap. i know jensen has some goos amps just couldnt find the site when i looked. for the 6x9 amps would something like this work good if i decided to just run those 6x9s in the doors. only 1 pair not 2. http://www.jensen.com/car_electronics.aspx?ProductID=91&SubCategoryID=2&CategoryID=1

are the subs any good tho you think? i saw the huge magnet size (100oz) and that they are 15s, i have some 15s in my room good sound, killer bass and they are only 250peak.

and whatss a good amp for those subs? a nice 400 rms or so since they are 200rms each. it might be kind cramped with amps but would this work? having two amps for the subs? 1 sub per amp.like these ones http://www.jensen.com/car_electronics.aspx?ProductID=353&SubCategoryID=2&CategoryID=1

thanks again everyone

I've had more stereo setups in my rides than you could shake a stick at. If you want to sound good its not going to be cheap. Pyramid, Legacy, Jenson those are low end brands, but they wont please most people who are into stereos. If you look around you can find som decent orion, pioneer, polk, fosgate, mtx, or any other good brand of subs and amp cheap.

Many of us have/ and will always go through the various stereo stages. It seemed from his post that he'd like to have plenty of decent sound.
Personally I think you'd get the most bang for the buck with Pioneer, Blaupunkt or Kenwood. Sony is finally starting to get the quality up on some of thier models; but you still need to pick from thier models carefully. I've had one with the wiring and mounting kit alread attached in the spare room here the last couple of years incase my OEM quits and I get desparate for tunes.
The 100 Oz magnets aren't really much.. especially for subs.. I'm used to 500 Oz on tweeters.
Just be sure you send whatever speakers you get a clean signal, because the distortion will do more damage than the power will.

well for 49bucks i figured "where else am i getting 15s?" i could buy some 15" wagon wheels for about 45bucks each but themz are the rims. :p anyways, im kinda new to the car stereo area. i got a kenwood unit. it has preamp outs for all 4 channels. has the input for a multi disk changer. and its 180wattsx4. i got it for free so im not gonna complain, truth is, i love the head unit. not to basic, not so great it will get jacked.
you said "...get a clean signal..." that basically means run gold plated rca jacks to the amps, fresh wire from the head and a good ground on the head. right?
also is mounting the amp behind the wall board panel in the back area opposite the space a good place? seems about as good as the floor to me plus its hidden and protected. just surround it in Dynamat? well wyseguy if you could help me choose some better components then would u please? i guess a jc whitney stereo aint that great after its all done and bought.
