Land use issues

Sam, what do you and the other guy's think about a board to try to keep people informed about possible trail closures, multi-use land issues trail maintence and clean up's or things of that nature. I did a couple of searches and didn't find much. Those guy's at Pirate4x4 have one but maybe RCC could reach some people that don't use that other board. I would help out as others would I'm sure if it sounds like something RCC want's to get into. Thanks Dave.

This is an idea I really like! It would be nice to start pushing the "tread lightly" side of wheeling and have something more organized to help out a bit more. Another thing I keep meanig to ask Sam, ever think about signing RCC up with something like UFWDA? (united four wheel drive assoc) or another organization? I THINK we might have enough members to qualify as a club! ;D
Just FYI I think we should have something for the Ram Jam anyhow and as for the rest of the folks who wheel should do the same . I am gonna wrtie something up for the Jam about what we should and should not be doing while we are wheeling anyhow . 1 thing i know alot of people will not like is drinking and wheeling but we will be on public land and on a busy holiday wekend . Anyhow I like your idea though fella's .

This sounds like a good idea. On the trail cleanup issues, I think that is mainly area specific, so stuff like that should be posted in the appropriate chapter. The same with trail closures. Not sure if that board would draw alot of posts.

Any other opinions on this?
Sam as for the Ram Jam and going by the Tread lightly idea I will dig up some old mag articles on it and use that as a guide as to what we should do and not do while out wheeling .

I do think a few things are gonna be must have stuff like :

Fire extingushers per few vehicles in case of a brush fire or potential hot exhaust lighting up some grass .

Don't make your own trail use the trails that exist .

Keep your trash cleaned up and all smokers field strip there smokes when they put them out . (Basically that means knocking off the hot box and keep the butt and stick in the trash )

Basic stuff like that .

I think your right about the clean ups and possible closures being local chapter stuff. I guess we could do a few post a see what kind of traffic it generates.

I totaly agree with you about the drinking on the trail. I'm not against tossing a few back when your in camp but I refuse to wheel with anybody on the trail that is drinking

The only problem with it being a "local" thing is the numbers. If we can get the whole site signing petitions, e-mailing people, etc it would help a lot more then just 2-3 in Ct for ct stuff, 3-4 in mass for mass stuff, etc. if 1% of the 5000 members help out across the country signing petitions etc, it will carry a lot more weight. If my math is right, (i'm tired) thats 50 people, we get more then that on here at a time! Thats not a lot here, but it is a lot more then CT has members! Thats about all of newengland AND NY! ;D

I think this is something we CAN do, and SHOULD do given the numbers we can swing behind it. The only problem with it is it will probably be a LOT of work to get started. This is another good reason to get involved with one of the nationwide 4x4 clubs, we can "piggyback" on what they have already started and organized.

Maybe the land use issue should be moved out into the open area and see if anyone wants to take it on.

If you want Sam, I will lookinto the club joining idea and let you know what I find out, just let me know what you want me to do.
If I am coming off too "greenie" let me know and I will shut up and work locally. ;D

Chris......I think that you have a good idea. I also believe that we'd have a better turn out if this went to the open board and we try to do it a whole, rather than by chapter. If this gets the go ahead, I'll do what I can to help ya out Chris. :)

Ok i think if there is a land closure you should make a post in the open board asking the members to please follow whatever instructions you put in the post to help get a e-mail or letter off to the correct people to help keep the land open, i also think that if the mail is not from that state it is discarded as being a non-resident, as for the land cleaning issues that should be in that respective chapters board

Ok, makes sense to me also.

Chris,
Thank you for contacting United Four Wheel Drive Associations.
Some clubs join UFWDA as a "basic" club. This means they pay only $50. When a club joins as a basic club, a letter (invitation) is included in their confirmation packet for them to give to their members to join. This letter can be included on your website. This way your members may join at the reduced rate of a club member, $10, instead of $25 for an individual membership.
A club is a club, regardless of how they are formed.
I have attached a copy of the invitation.
We hope you will join UFWDA.
If you have any further questions, please email me, or call me at 1-800-44-UFWDA (83932). I am in the office M-F, 8:30 am - 2:30 pm Eastern time.
Thank you.

Maybe that had something to do with it.
true, but it isworth looking at what you get for that $10 first! I am giving it some real serious thought, my prob is there arn't any clups around here that think like we all do here. Mostly jeep clubs.
I used to belong to United and I didn't care for how they handled land use. Maybe they've changed since then.

Good Luck :)
Are you part of a club now? Is anyone on here part of a club?
I'm in a local four wheeling club called Pipeline Four Wheelers. We belong to East Coast Four Wheel Drive Association. East Coast used to belong to United, but severed their relationship several years ago.
