So i guess you are saying you have nothing at all. This is not a good thing, it does more than just tell the trans when to manually kickdown, it also tells it when to downshift on its own. Running for very long with no kick down at all will cause some damage to the trans. If you are running without one i would suggest maually shifting until you get this reconnected. My preference is the Lokar cable, KD-2727HT. Stainless steel cable comes in a universal fit length and comes with mounting tabs. Installed it with the Lokar throttle cable as well and you can get their mounting bracket to mount at the carb and then you can get rid of all the old brackets that bolted on with the intake. Much nicer look.

The kickdown also modulates the line pressure of the tranny within preset linits, and this is why the tranny will burn up without a kickdown (unless you're running a full-manual race-style valvebody mod). To low buck it, just go pull the kickdown assembly from a dodge pickup. The setup is virtually unchanged from early 70's to early 90's.

I didn't say it was okay if you shift it manually. I said, if it has a racing style full-auto valvebody. These do away with the kickdown, but otherwise, you need it.
